Sneak Peek Trailer At ABC's Brand New 'V' Series!

I'm sure ICONS own Mike C will be excited about this! ABC is airing a pilot episode for a new 'V' series this fall. That's right, an update of the 80's television sci-fi cult classic! No word on when it'll air but you can keep your eyes on the official ABC webpage for the show at: abc.go.com/V

The pilot was written by Scott Peters (THE 4400) and directed by Yves Simoneau and stars Elizabeth Mitchell (LOST) as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch (THE 4400) as Father Jack Landry, Lourdes Benedicto as Valerie Stevens, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort (SMALLVILLE) as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin (FIREFLY) as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker. Check out the trailer and synopsis below:

Today, the world woke up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. They promise to do no harm. They're lying.

Most people believe the aliens have arrived just when we needed them most. We're eager to embrace their generous offers of help, but while tracking a terrorist cell, Homeland Security agent Erica Evans stumbles upon something far more sinister. Erica discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses, planting seeds for their plot to control mankind. Convincing anyone of the truth will be impossible because the Visitors have two powerful weapons. First, they've given the people faith with their reassuring presence and gifts. Second, they've rallied our youth. Thousands of teens, including Erica's son, have been recruited as 'Peace Ambassadors' but they're actually serving as unwitting spies. When Erica gets thrust into the resistance movement, she'll have to balance her covert activities with her job and her role as a mother, fighting to protect her son Tyler - even as he joins forces with the enemy.

From executive producer Scott Peters, Emmy-nominated creator of The 4400, comes a bold re-imagining of the sci-fi classic. Let the invasion begin.

The series is produced by HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. Scott Peters is executive producer/writer and Steve Pearlman and Jace Hall are executive producers.

Ok, you asked me to post this, but to be honest, I just haven't had to heart to even look at the trailer until now. (1:47am on Thursday). I have to say, I'm terribly UN-excited about this.

I don't usually wear the lame "NO REMAKES" sandwich board but this just looks stinky. It looks like it panders to stupid people, like a lot of remakes tend to. You can tell this the moment the "I LOVE V!" t-shirt appears in the trailer and one character refers to the visitors as "The V's".

You know what the V stood for in the original? It didn't stand for Visitor, it stood for Victory. It was a symbol of the resistance. They adopted from those who resisted the Nazis during the European occupation.

Such a remarkable opportunity we have, in todays culture, to once again use the story of the Visitors as an intelligent parable and a warning. To me this retooled effort looks stripped down.

    Highly offended.

I'm a long time science fiction fan and well old enough to have watched the original series and I was never all that impressed the first time around.
Some of the stuff in the oiginal story, like the aliens turning out to be evil and also highly-evolved reptilians in disguise, one could have see coming from a mile away even then, especially since most people have a deep-seated disgust of reptiles.
If someone ever wanted to do a different take on this series, I would have hoped this time around they would avoided the same old tired cliches.
