Dan Aykroyd Talks GHOSTBUSTERS 3!

In the last several months, with writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (THE OFFICE) hard at work on the script for a new GHOSTBUSTERS feature, it looks like we're finally getting closer and closer to GHOSTBUSTERS 3! (For real!) Last month, Harold Ramis chimed in with some thoughts on the proposed (and eagerly awaited) sequel. (Read that HERE!) Now, Dan Aykroyd has been talking about what we can expect.

Aykroyd told The LA Times that "Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists - Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson." He mentioned that Ivan Rietman, helmer of the first 2 GHOSTBUSTERS movies is "too busy" with his producing duties, but he'd like to see Harold Ramis step into the directing chair. (Ramis directed GROUNDHOG DAY with Murray, and most recently YEAR ONE, which was scripted by Eisenberg & Stupinsky.)

Aykroyd told The Guardian a bit about what we can expect plot-wise. "There'll be a whole new generation that has to be trained and a leader that you'll all love when you meet her. There'll be lots of cadets, boys and girls who'll be learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension."

Who could he mean by her? In The LA Times piece, he mentioned Alyssa Milano (who voiced the GHOSTBUSTERS video game) and Eliza Dushku. He adds, "I think they're amazing, and I'm excited about the whole idea of getting this done."

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is tentatively expected to shoot in the winter. More when we hear it!

The original GHOSTBUSTERS was directed by Ivan Reitman from a script by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.
