Director Found For The New A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET!
Share on FacebookThe word is out! And Freddy Krueger is coming back! The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business blog has broken the scoop that Samuel Bayer has been brought on board to direct the upcoming relaunch of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET for Platinum Dunes. (Bayer directed one of my all-time favorite music videos for Nirvana with "Smells Like Teen Spirit". He's also directed videos for David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, The Offspring, Metallica and more. Look at his videos for "The Heart's Filthy Lesson" by David Bowie & it's obvious he can handle this reboot's "nightmare-esque" sequences.)
Brad Fuller, Andrew Form & Michael Bay will produce the redux, which we imagine won't be far off from this weekend's FRIDAY THE 13TH. Bayer will direct from a script written by Wesley Strick (CAPE FEAR, ARACHNOPHOBIA).
The article continues, "Unlike other reboots of classic horror franchises, which synthesize plotlines from several films, this one, insiders said, will feature a strong element of the first picture, in which Krueger famously began haunting teenagers' dreams, attacking them violently in their subconscious in ways that resulted in their real-life deaths."
Shooting is expected to begin this April. Click HERE for the full article. More, including casting as soon as we hear it!

Smells like teen spirit is your favorite music video?
how about not being fed by the media or do you not have the capacity in your brain to do so?

Yes. Nirvana is one of my favorite bands, and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is one of my favorite songs/videos.
Considering that's only MY personal opinion, I'm not sure how that equates to being "spoon fed" by the media?
But thanks for the response, smelly!

The only good thing going for the Elm Street remake is that Wesley Strick is writing the script. Other than that i have little to no hope.
Not to mention that directing a Nirvana video is about as awesome as being kicked in the throat

Hmm. Going from a Music video made over a decade ago... to making a Nightmare on Elm st movie? They might as well as hired Uwe ball. And we ALL know what kind of garbage he put on film. To me this is just another ploy to get people to spend money in the theaters. To continually subject people to mind gelling travesty's like this, to me, is just another evil poly to destroy the world. If this movie turns out to be good, or even slightly good, ill be surprised. Personally, They can all suck my cock, because I wont be participating in Hollywood's money making antics. Everyone knows it will never live up to what the series started. Get over it. This movie will bomb.

Sigh... Samuel Bayer didn't go from Teen Spirit to this. He's been working on films & videos consistently SINCE then. I just mentioned Teen Spirit because Nirvana is one of MY favorite bands. (Last time I put my personal opinion in anything I post here.) Bayer's done a ton of videos for artists like David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, The Offspring, Blind Melon, The Cranberries, Metallica and on and on. Check out David Bowie's "The Heart's Filthy Lesson" or even Smashing Pumpkins "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and you'll see he can easily handle "nightmare-esque" sequences.
