"With SAW 5 hitting the video shelves this past week, it hit me that five years ago I had done an interview with James Wan that was meant to be the first edition of SHOCK N ROLL. Horrifically, I misplaced the tape, and the interview never saw (ahem) the light of day. But just as Jigsaw always finds a way to resurrect himself, so too did this tape, mismarked in a draw as the soundtrack to DETROIT ROCK CITY. Imagine my surprise when, expecting some rock and roll KISS action, I instead was greeted to the ever exuberant Australian accent of none other than James Wan! The lost Interview!"
"It really got to me hearing James and I speak for the first time. Since then, we’ve become good pals who have each made several films and watched SAW become a major franchise and sub genre (dubbed, rightly or wrongly, as torture porn) that has spawned four widely successful sequels with no end in sight. It’s extremely hard to think of the horror community pre-SAW or pre- WAN, but when James and I spoke back in 2004, that was exactly the setting! So strap on the time machine- watch out for spikes, razors, needles and other contraptions, and read on. Oh, yes, there will be blood."

Is Universal finally bringing back THE THING? According to Variety they are. The article says, "Universal will add a new chapter to "THE THING," lining up another take on the paranoid horror classic most recently brought to the screen by John Carpenter in 1982. Studio has set "Battlestar Galactica" exec producer Ron Moore to write the script and commercials director Matthijs Van Heijningen to direct the re-imagining."
The article continues, " the new project borrows heavily from the John W. Campbell Jr. short story "Who Goes There," the basis of the Carpenter film and 1951 Howard Hawks original "The Thing From Another World." It is set in a Norwegian camp and chronicles how the shape-shifting alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp. Strike Entertainment's Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. David Foster will be exec producer. Van Heijningen has shot blurbs for brands including Toyota, Pepsi, Heineken, Bud Light and Visa. He is also developing "Army of the Dead" at Warner Bros. with producer Zack Snyder, who also crossed from commercials to features by directing the Strike-produced "Dawn of the Dead" remake."
Bloody-Disgusting speculated in their original story that the new THING would be a prequel involving R.J. Macready's brother (Kurt Russell's character in Carpenter's version), however the Variety post referred to it as a "new chapter" and "re-imagining", which usually means, "remake" or "reboot". So we'll have to wait and see.

Bruce Dickinson presents CROWLEY on DVD March 10th!
What happens when ancient evil marries 21st-century technology? Behold CROWLEY. Also known under its international title Chemical Wedding, Anchor Bay Entertainment will unleash this one-of-a-kind supernatural shocker on DVD on March 10, 2009 .
Crowley stars Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love, Phantom of the Opera), two-time BAFTA Award nominee and SAG Award winner and is directed by Julian Doyle (editor of Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life and Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits and Brazil). Doyle co-wrote the screenplay with Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of the legendary heavy-metal rock group Iron Maiden. Dickinson also co-wrote the film’s music score with Dave Howman, Andre Jacquemin and Rod Melvin.
Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) was the most notorious occultist who ever lived. A man whose appetites for corruption, sadism, sexual excess and moral degradation knew no bounds. His sphere of influence extended far beyond England to the world at large, and some believed to the very depths of hell itself. When Crowley died, the world breathed a collective sigh of relief. But for those versed in the black arts, death is only the beginning…
As the year 2000 closes, Cambridge University is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the world, and ground zero for a scientific experiment in which a state-of-the-art Virtual Reality suit is connected to the Z93, the most efficient super-computer on the planet.
The computer, however, has been programmed with the teachings and philosophies of Aleister Crowley, and when meek classics lecturer Oliver Haddo (Simon Callow) dons the suit, he undergoes an incredible and shocking transformation as the computer floods his brain with unspeakable occult images. When Haddo emerges from the suit, he is in fact the living, breathing -- and fornicating -- reincarnation of Crowley. And now, he is hell-bent on performing the ultimate in unholy ceremonies – the “Chemical Wedding.”
With nods to H.P. Lovecraft, and such film classics as Jacques Tourneur’s Curse of the Demon and Ken Russell’s Altered States, Crowley is a deranged combination of debauchery and demonology with a devilish sense of humor. Audiences and critics alike have been bowled over by Callow’s no-holds-barred performance as the possessed professor.
“Clearly having a blast from start to finish, he (Callow) delivers every line with theatrical relish and occasionally plays to a gallery located somewhere close to the planet Venus,” said DVD Outsider. “At its best this is enormous fun, even if there are times it feels like the filmmakers have taken leave of their senses.” “A thoroughly enjoyable supernatural romp,” wrote Matt McAllister of Total Sci Fi. “An entirely bewildering, though surprisingly well-made, horror with a hilarious turn from Callow.”
“Highly entertaining stuff,” said Trevor Baker of FilmExposed.com. “It’s schlocky and gloriously over-the-top but also very well put together. Callow is excellent as the exuberant Satanist.” “A hipper, newer, higher-tech update of the old Hammer horror films,” said Johnny Web (Uncle Scoopy) of www.scoopy.com. “It has the appropriately infernal music score, some powerful atmosphere, lurid genre thrills, an ambitious complicated plot, and an outlandishly hammy but amazingly effective performance from Callow.”
In addition to Callow, Crowley also stars Kal Weber (The Fourth Angel “The Hive”), Paul McDowell (The Thirty-Nine Steps, “The Black Adder”), John Shrapnel (The Duchess, Mirrors, Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Terence Bayler (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, The Remains of the Day) and newcomer Lucy Cudden in her feature film debut.

PHIL FASSO'S TOP 11 GREATEST ZOMBIE MOVIE TAG-LINES!
11 Greatest Zombie Movie Tag Lines
A short while ago in an email, Rob G. sent out a call for Top 10 lists, and specifically mentioned he'd like me to do one that was zombie-related. I have to be honest: I dreaded this assignment. While I'm a real talented writer, and it's easy for me to figure out what I do or don't like, it's very hard for me to put my likes or dislikes in order. Sure, it's easy to identify #1, and maybe # 2 or 3... but beyond this I'm lost. But Rob's a genuinely good guy who loves Icons even more than I do, so I knew I had to take myself to task and give him a list. And lo and behold, I couldn't even keep it to 10.
Picking 11 out of the multitudes wasn't so bad. These were my criteria, in order of importance: 1. How effectively the line sold the movie. 2. How accurately does the line capture the spirit of the movie? 3. How original was the wording? 4. How witty was the line? So the tagline for Bride of Re-Animator is probably the coolest ever, but it doesn't accurately describe the movie. You get the gist, I hope.
Oh, and note: These lines are all great, but some of the movies they represent... not so much.
As a list maker in Entertainment Weekly once wrote, lists are great because they're always up for debate. I'd love for you to tell me, "Fasso, how could you put that one at #4 instead of this one?" or "Oh my God, you left that one off?" Or maybe even, "Damn, that's exactly what I was thinking!"
Enjoy. And be cool.
1. "When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth"-- Dawn of the Dead (1978):
One of the things I've always admired about George Romero is how, as a screenwriter, he always creates distinct characters through their dialogue. Looking down on hundreds of zombies in the mall, Peter recalls what his grandfather used to tell him; in doing so, he captures the essence of the film perfectly. This single line speaks volumes about what humanity has done over the course of history, and why he and his companions are stuck in this dreadful situation. Though many, including myself, acknowledge Night of the Living Dead as a superior film, its taglines don't come close to this one. Neither do those of any other film. Hands down, a tagline without parallel.
2. "The dead walk among us"-- White Zombie (1932):
Yes, this line is simple. But remember, White Zombie is the alpha zombie movie. The line is primal and powerful, but today might seem clichéd; in 1932, however, it was probably shocking. I include this tagline because I've seen it aped in dozens of forms over the decades. Copy it if you like, but it's the original, and serves as the best of its type.
3. " Herbert West has a very good head on his shoulders... and another one on his desk"-- Re-Animator (1985):
Re-Animator is a sick and twisted flick. The twist on the "good head" phrase is brilliant, especially when one sees it plastered to the image from the movie, as it was used on posters and VHS/DVD cover art. Apply the idea of "good head" to what happens between Dr. Hill and Megan Halsey at the film's climax (and talk about a double meaning for that word!), and this line perfectly captures the sick wit of the movie.
4. "The darkest day of horror the world has ever known"-- Day of the Dead (1985):
A grim tagline for the grimmest of the Romero Dead movies. This is indeed the darkest of his zombie films, literally and tonally, a relentlessly mirthless effort that bespeaks of the worst of the human condition. The director refers to those who prefer Day as "trolls," and the analogy is appropriate. For them, this tagline says it all.
5. "You have the right to remain silent. Forever"-- Maniac Cop (1988):
Sometimes, instead of coming after the movie's been made, a tagline acts as the genesis for the movie. As I've heard William Lustig tell the story directly, he and writer Larry Cohen were discussing making a zombie cop movie. At that meeting, one of them spouted out this line, and it crystallized the whole film. The line is a great twist on those famous Miranda rights, uttered by so many cops on myriad cop shows over the ages. And it really encapsulates the spirit of the flick.
6. "Date. Mate. Re-animate"-- Bride of Re-Animator (1990):
Simply awesome. It's not exactly an accurate depiction of the way the plot goes, but it exemplifies the quest of lovesick Dan Cain to reunite with his beloved Meg. And just as with the tagline for the original, it's sick, twisted, and damned witty.
7. "The good news is your date is here! The bad news is he's dead!" -- Night of the Creeps (1986):
A reworded line from the movie, this tagline tells the audience exactly what to expect: the living dead, with comedy and romance thrown into the mix. Fred Dekker's underrated zombie flick also includes references to 1950s science fiction, and an impossibly cool performance by horror vet Tom Atkins, who delivers the altered tagline in the film.
8. "They're back from the grave, and ready to party!"-- Return of the Living Dead (1985):
Though it only sells one aspect of the film, this tagline stood in direct contrast to Day of the Dead's "darkest day" line, as it came out only about a month after Romero's film. As this film is an offshoot of Romero's series, the line delineates the vast difference between that director's approach and that of Dan O'Bannon.
9. "Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas"-- Army of Darkness (1993):
Army of Darkness is only marginally a zombie movie, and it's really more a comedy than a horror flick. But who can deny the wit and humor of its tagline, when applied to the picture of a bare-chested Ash with a medieval world and wench behind him, and a chainsaw attached to his right arm? Not me.
10. "You're invited to Orville's ' coming out' party... It'll be a scream... YOURS!!!"- Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (1972):
No, Orville isn't going to admit he's gay. But main character Alan might be. The "coming out" refers to how an acting troupe disinters Orville's corpse. The tagline itself makes the movie sound like it's going to be a festive affair; it's not. If only this lame, boring movie were as hip as the tagline.
11. "They won't stay dead!"-- Night of the Living Dead (1968):
Okay, I'm biased. There's no way I could devise this list and not include a tagline for the best, and most important, zombie film ever made. But hang with me here. This line is a throwback to the tagline from White Zombie, and carries the same kind of primal power. Night's tagline acknowledges the link to Lugosi's flick, even as the film itself is about to overturn everything that's happened in zombie flicks since 1932. And without even intending to, it comments on the prominence of Romero's Dead franchise, as each of his original trilogy have lived long past their immediate impact, further to frighten new generations of horror fans. --Phil Fasso
ADAM (EVIL) BARNICK'S TOP 10 SCARIEST TELEVISION MOMENTS!
We all have our fluctuating lists of top horror films.. but what about television? Many of us were weaned on seeing horror on tv when we were too young to get to the theaters or convince our families that we could handle the scary stuff in a big, dark room.. but lately I’ve thought about television’s ability to give us the same chills. So I decided to look back and find what, to me, were the scariest things I’ve experienced on television - in media made specifically for television, not movies I simply discovered at home. Looking back, let’s see if any of you have these in common. A few of these don’t hold up but never left my scarred brain. Some still frighten me to no end. Enjoy.
Adam (Evil) Barnick’s Top Ten Scariest Television Moments
10) Salem's Lot: The Boy at the window
This was one my parents used to speak of which I got to witness in the mid-80's, when most of these stories were screened and freaked me to no end.
While Barlow's Nosferatu-esque appearance is effective as was the rest of the tale, it was the vampiric boy at the window, ceaselessly grinning (an unusual yet potent fear of mine, strange/uncanny grins), scratching at the window to be let in. Doesn't the other kid think this is remotely strange? I like how he’s borderline pleased to see him, not thinking the floating is remotely out of order. Of all the items I will mention on this list, this is the one I hear the most referenced by other horror fans who saw it growing up.
9) The X-Files: Humbug
One of the first intentionally comedic episodes of the paranormal series was one of the ones that turned me inside out back in the day. Mulder and Scully investigate the town of Gibsonton, Florida where members of a traveling circus sideshow are dying under mysterious circumstances. A Basket Case-esque revelation reveals the killer is the underdeveloped twin of one of the lead 'freaks', with the ability to leave its host body for periods of time. For such a darkly comic episode, the rare flashes of "Leonard" streaking through the frame or attacking potential new hosts revealed a truly unsettling design. Some good suspense in this episode, but primarily the twisted design of the twin coupled with his sudden attacks that got me.
8) Tales from the Darkside: 'Inside The Closet'
While even as a kid I found the show enjoyably cheesy, this episode was the one that floored lil' Barnick. A college student moves into an older man's upstairs spare room on campus, but warned not to use the small boxlike closet in the corner. Naturally curiosity gets the better of her as she notices shoes missing, items scattered..and it's revealed early on that SOMETHING makes the little closet its home..and it doesn't like the new guest.
The episode’s two creepiest moments..The young woman investigates a noise at night and finds nothing; as she lifts her heels off the floor to settle into slumber, a bleach-white emaciated clawed hand reaches for her ankle and misses. As she sleeps, a small shaft of moonlight illuminates SOMETHING under there, waiting. Every child’s fear that made them hop quickly into bed made manifest.
That's already enough to give any kid phobias; but it was the reveal/assault to follow that really messed with ten-year old yours truly. As with most of these, the FX are dated but admirable given the time. The thing in the closet, "Lizzie", is still a truly disturbing design, and its horrible crackle-noises still get me. But THE moment, which I remember being far more effective as a kid but is still pretty tough, was when Lizzie jumps on the heroine's back, and yanks her to the floor, breaking her neck before she even collapses. Brrr.
7) Trilogy of Terror
Need I say more? This was a late bloomer for me (I didn't see it on television until 1990) and yet while the idea seems ludicrous, and probably looks so if you're raised on modern FX, there's something about the Zuni fetish doll that seems to freak out anyone who experienced it at the right time in their lives. Basically the Tasmanian devil on espresso, the relentless doll endlessly screaming, chasing and slashing Karen Black was already unsettling when it was inanimate (that face!) and is even crazier when set free of its protective chain. And to top it off, we have that chair-gripping ending image where even though Ms. Black defeated the doll's body, she perished fighting its spirit.
6) V: The Final Battle: The Birthing Scene
I still consider this a well-made series and have enjoyed revisiting it on occasion over the years; as a wee lad it was a stirring sci fi monster story, and as you grow you realize just what the story (at least the original miniseries) symbolizes. Actually I'm not sure how I missed the symbolism even as a kid, it's not even remotely subtle..
This scene may have been the thing that wore down over time in terms of fear, but truly chilled lil' Barnick to the bone when he was too young to be seeing it. Robin Maxwell (Blair Tefkin) is shocked to learn her pregnancy from a Visitor may be far from human..and even more shocking are the green blemishes on her neck counting down her cycle and the fact that it's keeping her emotions and impulses in check, literally stopping her from killing herself.
Already a dread-driven premise, this scene at the time (I still feel, with the exception of the FX, it holds up) was the one that kept me WIDE awake..I'm pretty sure I asked to sleep with my parents that night. Quite a nice misdirect when you first think Robin had a normal baby, then realize she's had TWO that aren't what she was expecting, as a seemingly human child comes out twisted
and then its TWIN comes out even worse:
5) Don't be Afraid of the Dark
"Sally...we want you!"
An obvious inspiration for 'Inside the Closet', another late bloomer, I hadn't seen until the late 80's.. This one, you know it even if you don't know the title. Everyone who has seen it remembers it and I'm sure any kid who grew up in the 70's/early 80's thought twice about investigating that creaking floorboard after seeing it. Alex and Sally inherit her grandparent's old dark house, in need of serious maintenance, especially the bricked up study and fireplace. Naturally she ignores the pleas of the handyman who worked on the house 20 years prior and breaks both open, unleashing strange creatures who have been in the house for possibly forever..and may have taken her grandfather away when he made the same discovery. The ominous house, thick atmosphere, whispering, taunting voices coming from the dark, and a proper downbeat ending; it's a perfect little Halloween chiller, marred only by the fact that the creatures look like stuntmen with shag carpet stapled to their bodies and are on the receiving end of one too many closeups. (Ghoulies has scarier beasts.) Still, when the things are hiding and discussing what to do with her, it's eerie. The thought of being trapped forever with the imps was far more frightening to me than the overall atmosphere. I haven't seen it since I was 12 or so but I'm sure most of it still holds up.
4) The X files: Irresistible
Now we hit one of the rare X-Files episodes that dealt with a completely HUMAN monster. Foreshadowing the work Chris Carter would explore in Millennium a few years later, the FBI investigates/discovers a series of murders committed by 'death fetishist', Donnie Pfaster(Nick Chinlund). Calm, quiet, nasal-voiced Donnie suggests great anger hidden in a boy trapped in a man's body, and is one of the more unsettling performances I'd seen on the show. Add to it his rituals of washing the hair and nails (and keeping samples to boot) from his victims and the fact that Scully has nightmares(or is it visions?) of him as a shadowy, Satanic being, and you get some prime television spooky.
3) Twin Peaks: The Finale
SPOILERS!! Avoid if you don’t know the show..
While fans of David Lynch’s offbeat soap opera/mystery/existential detective series had waned in season 2 after its key question (Who killed Laura Palmer?) was answered, after a few episodes wading in sub-par narratives the plot kicked into gear again. Straightlaced, eccentric hero Dale Cooper (the FBI agent portrayed by Kyle Maclachlan) faced two nemeses; his insane mentor, retired FBI agent Windom Earle, and The Black Lodge, an alternate dimension (in a manner of speaking) referenced in Indian and Tibetan legend which defied comprehension and was the supernatural source of ‘evil in these woods’ often referenced by townsfolk. Over time in the show the Lodge was not only revealed to be real and accessible, but the actual goal of Agent Earle, formerly assumed to be simply out for revenge on Cooper.
Twin Peaks’ cliffhanger finale, never resolved due to the show’s cancellation, saw Cooper discover the Lodge and enter, trying to stop Earle and save his love, Annie (Heather Graham) What followed was 15 uninterrupted minutes of the strangest television I’ve ever seen; though following a story and answering some questions series viewers had over the previous year, this surrealistic assault of Cooper’s past traumas, riddles, shifts of time and bodily form (characters constantly turn into other characters or disappear) is something that I found initially bizarre and with little context..after time and repeat viewings it has grown into one of the scariest things I’ve seen on television. If you’ve never seen the show it may come off as the brain-burst of a pretentious art-student run amok. If you had really followed the show and/or had a bizarre fear of the uncanny (as I do), it was a flat-out mind-rape. Human characters acting non-human, freezing, behaving as imitations of human form while Cooper was confused, chased, bleeding and trapped in a labyrinth of red curtains.. I couldn’t take it. The screaming, insane dopplegangers (white-eyed shadow-selves of key cast members) didn’t make it any easier. And the show ended with one of the most downbeat, scream-at-the-TV endings I’d ever experienced.
2) Millennium: The Pilot episode
It's still admirable something this dark got onto network TV. The pilot in particular, with its damp Seattle settings and effective capturing of the encroaching fear that rising societal violence and the year 2000 might bring, is the type of tale you need a shower and a cupcake after experiencing. While its tone through three seasons was wildly uneven, Millennium’s initial episode/assault of rain, dire warnings, hallucinations of bleeding strippers writhing in burning rooms, men on fire in the woods(!) etc. was and is this, to me, is one of the few things on the list that still holds up in the fear and dread factor.
The scene that took the cake involved finding one of the Frenchman's (the show’s first serial killer) victims: while alive, he'd been buried in a casket in the woods, with not only his mouth sewn shut, but his eyes AND his wrists/hands stitched up as well so he couldn't even bang on the coffin for help. Ceaselessly screaming a muffled scream when found and never set free from the bonds on camera, this made me quite unsurprised the show caused intense controversy upon its 1996 debut.
1)Twin Peaks: The murder(s)
More spoilers!
Few directors who haven’t really made official horror films can disturb like David Lynch. Whenever he’d step in to direct an episode of the show you could count on the eccentricity/behavior doubling, the pace slowing to a beautiful, non-television-like crawl, and the scary scenes becoming ten times as frightening.
Lynch stepped in during season 2 of the show to direct four episodes. The second season opener and followup, the seventh episode (referenced later in this part), and the finale. While trying not to reveal too much, both involved murders of key characters.. the first one ended the first episode of season 2, when beaten coma victim Ronette Pulaski snapped out of unconsciousness to remember what happened to her and her friend the night they were attacked.
For a sequence with no blood or physical impact really shown, this packed quite a punch and kept me awake in high school. Check it on DVD with proper sound if you really want a beating. Sadly it’s a bit dark on here and missing the slow, still, eerie buildup to this moment.
The second murder occurred six episodes later, as Laura Palmer’s cousin Madeline made plans to return home to Montana after helping console Laura’s grieving parents. The entire episode is thick with dread, with key players intuitively feeling that ‘something is happening.’ And it does. In an absolutely startling sequence, soundtracked by a record endlessly circling on its player after the song ended, Laura’s mother Sarah hallucinates and passes out in her living room, drugged. Her seemingly oblivious husband is nearby putting on a sharp suit.
Later we return to this scene after Cooper, picking up on the psychic disturbance, is flat out told by a Giant apparition (Carel Struycken, returning after visiting Cooper in an earlier episode) that ‘it is happening again’ even though he’s not told how or where.
Back in Sarah’s house, Madeline smells something burning and enters the Palmer’s living room, only to be met with the nastiest murder I’ve ever seen on TV. Absolutely disturbing, it constantly flashes back and forth between the killer’s outward form and his true form, showing what Maddy sees and what’s really happening. The killer beats her, dances with her limp choking body, and kisses her for what goes on for what feels like forever..before taking her and smashing her head into a picture on the wall, cracking the glass and her at the same time. He leans down and inserts a small letter under her fingernail with an exacto knife (the killer’s signature) while glaring at her lifeless body. We cut back to Cooper, still deciphering the signs around him..while all around him begin to break down in anguish they don’t understand. I’ve tried to keep this as vague as I can, but trust me- they don’t even do things this nasty/scary on network television NOW. It’s not hideously bloody but it is violent and disturbing as hell. Twin Peaks’ most nervewracking moment, and the buildup to the murder remains the scariest thing, personally, I have witnessed on television. It still scares me today to the degree it did in 1990. Seek the show out on high quality dvd and then write me to tell me you agree or I’m insane..just check it out. We’re so used to today binging on TV shows on DVD, you’ll get to it quickly.
So in conclusion: surrealism, smiles and little rubber puppets did the most damage to me growing up.
:-D

FANTASTIC FLESH: The Art of Makeup EFX
From classic creatures to modern gore, special effects makeup has always been at the dark heart of movie magic. Now, film fans will go skin deep – and beyond – with Fantastic Flesh: The Art of Makeup EFX , coming from Anchor Bay Entertainment on January 27th, 2009 . In this informative and engaging Starz Original documentary, viewers will meet the masters of the craft and discover its incredible history. SRP is $19.97.
“(Starz is) becoming – if they’re not already – the best in the genre business with comprehensive documentaries on the slasher and vampire genres, the history of black cinema and many more, but this one will hold a special place in the hearts of every fan-boy out there,” said RogueCinema.com.
From the silent era to today’s blockbuster, this fast-paced documentary examines the techniques, reveals the secrets, and emphasizes the impact that special effects makeup has had on filmmaking for more than a century. Before CGI effects became the norm, special effects makeup was often accomplished through invention, ingenuity and, in some cases, sheer luck!
This in-depth documentary features exclusive interviews with some of the biggest names in Hollywood filmmaking, including Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street), John Carpenter (the original Halloween, The Fog), Eli Roth (Cabin Fever), George A. Romero (the original Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead), John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn), Mick Garris (“Masters of Horror”), Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Creepshow), Dick Smith (The Exorcist) and Academy Award winner Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2), as well as clips from such classic horror and fantasy films as Frankenstein, The Exorcist, Planet of the Apes, The Chronicles of Narnia, An American Werewolf in London, The Thing, Grindhouse, Sin City, Transformers, Day of the Dead, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, Total Recall, Cabin Fever, The Howling and many more.
Directed by filmmaker and visual effects artist Kevin VanHook (Death Row, The Fallen Ones, Slayer Moon), Fantastic Flesh: The Art of Makeup EFX was lauded as “an enjoyable look at the industry as well as a great nostalgia piece” by IconsofFright.com, while Bloody-disgusting.com said the documentary “offers a unique glimpse behind the lens to a magical place where hardcore film fans who grew up on too many monster movies would love to play.”

Cinema Images is finishing up work on their latest feature BRAINCELL. There are few working as hard and tirelessly in the world of truly independent horror as producer/star Joe Zaso and the crew over at Cinema Images. Their films, which frequently make use of fantastic locations and international casts, really hearken back the Italian productions of the 70's and 80's, which was especially evident in their last feature DARKNESS SURROUNDS ROBERTA.
Zaso has provided Icons of Fright with 3 exclusive pics from his latest production BRAINCELL, which is wrapping up, on location, in Liverpool, UK as well as Naples, Italy. The film has been produced by Zaso’s Cinema Image Productions in association with Studio Mare Nostrum LLC and Cryptkeeper Films. Zaso has also provided us with the one-sheet for Timo Rose's werewolf mystery BEAST.
Zaso described his role to Fangoria earlier this week as "Dr. Cornwall, an unhinged university professor who is responsible for a wave of violence caused by the experiments he performs at the school.". The film will also feature Cinema Images regular Raine Brown as, "Hannah, his estranged niece who goes to live with her crazy uncle and then unravels a frightening mystery at the school." In addition Zaso has once again lined up an international cast that includes, "Eileen Daly who plays a wicked nurse named Nurse Audra who assists in the dark doings, and the cast also includes Billy Garberina from NECROVILLE and Eleanor James from Ivan Zuccon’s COLOUR FROM THE DARK. Also appearing are two names known well to British television viewers: HOLLYOAKS’ Leon Lopez and THE IT CROWD’s Matt Berry.”
Zaso first met BRAINCELL director Alex Birrell when the latter served as DARKNESS’ cinematographer; also encoring from the movie is composer Marco Werba, who was since tapped by Dario Argento to score his latest feature GIALLO. The climatic and scheduling problems on this low-budget project are also familiar to Zaso, but he says, “While the weather in Liverpool might be freezing at the moment and the pace on the set hectic, the people here are amazingly kind, and the city itself has a very unique look and feel. It’s a great place to make films. Alex is very meticulous in all departments, and his love of the Italian and Eurohorror styles has made the experience very positive.”
Raine Brown says of working in the UK, "The opportunity to film in England is so amazing; I’m in love with the country, the landscape and the people,” Brown adds. “BRAINCELL is such an artistic and atmospheric piece. My character is a big departure from the spunky leading ladies I usually play. She’s lost, sad and trapped in a world that she does not understand. This film mixes the dream world into the already fantastical reality that Hannah is facing, so that one is never sure what the truth is.”
Zaso is looking toward completing BRAINCELL this summer, with release in both the U.S. and UK targeted for August. "BEAST" from Cinema Image Productions (feautring Zaso, Brown, Daly and Timo Rose) will be on DVD on March 6.
Take a look below for some pics from BRAINCELL. Click on any image to see a full size version:

ICONS EXCLUSIVE: Tim Sullivan Interviews ROB ZOMBIE About HALLOWEEN 2! SHOCK N ROLL ISSUE 7!
ICONS exclusive! SHOCK N ROLL ISSUE 7: ZOMBIE 2 HALLOWEEN 2! Our staffer Tim Sullivan got the chance to chat with Rob Zombie and uncover what the filmmaker has got in store with his recently announced HALLOWEEN sequel, H2. No, it's not a remake of the original sequel set in a hospital, but a completely original beast of it's own.
Of note is how Zombie plans on approaching the character of Laurie Strode. (The first film focused on Michael, whereas HALLOWEEN 2 will be about Laurie.) He also addresses what would happen to the Loomis character should Malcolm McDowell's schedule conflict with the upcoming shoot. He gives a quick update on his latest record. (Tyler Bates orchestrated one track!) And talks about the influence of the recently departed Forrest Ackerman. Click the frame and image below for the full details on ALL of thew above! As an added bonus, Tim let us include reprints of his interviews with Sheri Moon Zombie & Rob Zombie from THE DEVIL'S REJECTS release!
Tim's interview intro:
With MY BLOODY VALENTINE kicking ass at the box office and anticipation high for FRIDAY THE 13TH, remakes of 80’s splatter classics (and not so classics) continue; like it or not. As someone who has remade an exploitation favorite, (TWO THOUSAND MANIACS!), it’s hard for me to throw rocks while living in a glass house. For the most part, I wish Hollywood would be a bit more original and allow filmmakers to come up with something new. But if remakes are to continue, then I guess those opposed should hate the game, not the player.
So when a remake (or sequel to a remake) is announced, then we should be grateful that someone like Rob Zombie is behind the lens, and not some TV commercial director hired by a producer who gives more about the “buck” than the project. I have a lot of love for Rob Zombie. Besides the fact that I consider him among one of my best friends in this industry, I think he is one of the greatest American filmmakers alive today- a modern Scorsese. Every time I talk to Rob I wish I had a tape recorder present. The conversations are always that good. Rob is thoughtful. Passionate. Often pissed off. And always REAL. Which could also describe both his music and his films. At first, I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard about his pending HALLOWEEN sequel. Like most of Rob’s projects at the outset. But in the end, Rob always makes a true believer out of me.
LADIES OF THE EVIL DEAD Launch New Web-Series 'DANGEROUS WOMEN'!
Those lovely LADIES OF THE EVIL DEAD are back in a new web-series called DANGEROUS WOMEN for Strike.TV! Below you'll find the first trailer courtesy of the DANGEROUS WOMENFacebook page, as well as the full press release.
EVIL DEAD TRIO REUNITES FOR NEW WEB SERIES COMEDY
In 1980, they were hormonal teenager plagued by zombies. Fast forward nearly 30 years. Now they are hormonal suburban housewives cursed with doppelgangers. Some may call it the Evil Dead Reunion Tour, but it is Dangerous Women and it premieres on January 22nd on Strike.TV.
The website’s newest web series stars Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker and Theresa Tilly , who made their mark in the Sam Raimi ’s Cult Classic THE EVIL DEAD with co-star Bruce Campbell . While Deadites will get some of the in-jokes (each of the women have the same names as their Evil Dead characters), the show has a mass appeal. The show will focus on the women’s daily battle between motherhood, marriage and their sadistically evil doubles. The show was written by David O’Malley, who penned Fatal Instinct.
“When we saw the script for Dangerous Women, it seemed natural that the ‘Ladies of the Evil Dead’ should reunite for the show,” according to Ellen Sandweiss, who plays Cheryl on Dangerous Women. “We never thought that something we did in college would have such staying power with such a strong fan base after 30 years.”
Strike.TV was conceived shortly after the WGA strike in 2007 as a way for the creative forces behind the camera to participate and have more of a say in the revenue stream. It has the backing of all unions, and provides a showcase for actors, directors and writers. Each webisode is anywhere between 4-7 minutes with cliffhangers that are resolved weekly.
Is Dakota Fanning Joining The TWILIGHT Sequel 'NEW MOON'?!
E! OnLine is reporting that an offer has gone our to actress Dakota Fanning for the role of "Jane" in the upcoming TWILIGHT sequel 'NEW MOON'.
The article says, “There were no auditions,” a source reveals. “They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth.” Jane is a member of Italy’s Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers in author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series. In the casting notice we got our hands on earlier this month, Jane is described as a petite blonde with a “Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises.” While fellow Volturi guards Demetri & Felix “are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her,” the casting notice reads. Director Chris Weitz is expected to start shooting NEW MOON in March in the U.S. and Italy. If all goes as planned, the movie will hit theaters on Nov. 20.

Ordinarily this Icons of Fright staffer doesn't like the cold, traffic, or New Jersey. When this cheimaphobic writer with a small bladder and an aversion to hair gel was asked to brave all three to attend the Repo Road Tour I was less than enthused. Can a hypothermic cynic warm up REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, a gore-laden goth rock musical from the director of SAW II, III & IV starring Paris Hilton? Well, when the evening turns out to be an energetic and campy celebration, with 500 plus obsessed and cheering fans in attendance, the answer is a surprising yes.
The show at the Williams Art Center in Rutherford, NJ kicked off with an introduction by Bloody-Disgusting's Spooky Dan, who has been a tireless advocate of the movie since it's first run in L.A. this past fall. Spooky D got the crowd warmed up by bringing out a sassy little dancer for a burlesque number set to one of the songs from the flick. Immediately following was his own short film REPO: THE PUPPET OPERA. That's exactly what it sounds like, readers. Certainly helping to solidify REPO's reputation as a soon-to-be cult classic were the number of fans dressed up, in character, for the occasion. A costume contest was held with the contestants taking up the entire stage.
Right before the film started director Darren Lynn Bousman, writer/star Terrance Zdunich, and star Alexa Vega took to the stage for a brief introduction. They thanked their fans for braving the below freezing temperatures and for their support of the picture. Actress Alexa Vega, previously of the SPY KIDS franchise, seemed especially excited to be a part of this tour and film. The crew received several gifts from the crowd. Bousman gave a special call out to a family (Mom, Dad, kids and all) that had previously attended several dates on the tour.
The movie started and the crowd went crazy with fans dancing along to the numbers, callbacks shouted at the screen, and everything else you'd expect from an audience celebrating one of the favorite movies. You may have already read reviews that we've run here on IOF, but I'd like to add that the film is something special. I had doubts that I'd enjoy the movie, and had become especially cautious considering the cult-film status seemingly forced upon it. Initially skeptical that this supposed following was more marketing ploy than having developed organically. However, the fervor of the crowd, and the number of fans that showed up, proved otherwise. As for the movie, I enjoyed it, and there's even a few numbers I still haven't gotten out of my head. I'll certainly be among the fans picking it up on DVD. It's not perfect, and it's obviously ambitious beyond it's budget, but it's to be admired. Certainly you've not seen anything quite like it.
After the film Bousman, Zundich and Vega once again took to the stage to take questions from the crowd. A few interesting facts were revealed. For example, when the budget was cut from $25 million to just $8 million the director had to think fast on ways to get his sets built. While working on SAW IV, Bousman asked for a mausoleum and graveyard set to be built for new scenes for Jigsaw, which, of course, never made into that movie. These sets were later “recycled” (wink, wink) by Bousman for REPO. Nice move!
Finally the evening wrapped up with the stars signing autographs for every single REPO fan that had showed up. With the soundtrack playing in the background during the signing some fans even took to the stage to sing along with the favorite songs.
Rather than lamenting it's limited release it's great to see fans and the creative team behind the movie doing it the old way by taking their movie from city to city. Look, here's a movie that had it's chance at a wide-release cut way, way short, but this was never a film that was made for the multiplex. And it wasn't made for the art-house either. If there is anyway you experience REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA, hopefully you get the chance to see it with a crowd attending the Road Tour. Several dates still remain, with the tour wrapping up in LA.
So...how'd the first R-rated 3D horror film in nearly 30 years make out this weekend? MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D opened in 3rd place this weekend, according to Box Office Mojo with an estimated gross of $21.9 million. While fans may be disappointed it did not best PAUL BLART: MALL COP, this is not one of those "limped into 3rd place" box-office stories. Valentine comes out in a crowded weekend with 4 major new releases, including another family movie HOTEL FOR DOGS and NOTORIOUS, which it beat. Coming in 2nd was GRAN TORNO, which only beats MY BLOOD VALENTINE by less than 400k. Keeping in mind the limited number of screens available for the digital 3D experience, as well as the fact that we're in holiday weekend, means this film will likely have legs beyond it's opening.
MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D was directed by Patrick Lussier (DRACULA 2000) from a script by Todd Farmer (JASON X) & Zane Smith and stars SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles, Jaime King (THE TRIPPER), Kerr Smith (FINAL DESTINATION), Edi Gathegi, Kevin Tighe, Megan Boone & Tom Atkins.

It's been over 10 years since a sequel to Dee Snider'sSTRANGELAND was green-lit. The singer/talk show host for FANGO RADIO recently explained some of the legalities in an interview with Bullz-Eye.com. "Well, right after the first one came out, anyway. But we started working on the script, we started looking for directors, and then the company that did it – The Shooting Gallery – they were indicted by the federal government for an Enron-like situation. Their CFO was arrested. All properties were seized, and I spent seven years in the courts, just getting my creative properties, because the government just takes everything, and they dissolve everything."
He continues, "After that, I had a deal for an extended DVD release of the first "Strangeland" with Lionsgate, and then the frigging director who fucked it up the first time (John Pieplow) wielded his Director's Guild right to first re-edit. We wanted to do an extended DVD and call it the Dee-rector's cut, but I won't let the guy near it, and it scared off Lionsgate, because they don't wanna get fucking involved with the Director's Guild. So I'm right at this point right now where I'm, like, y'know what? (Sighs) Maybe I should just let it go. I'll put a sign on my website that says, "Y'got $10 million? Give me a call. I've got the script ready to go, Robert Englund's attached, I'm attached. If somebody's serious and wants to make it, call me. But don't call me 'til you're ready to hand the check over."
Despite these comments though, NME just posted a new article saying that the sequel STRANGELAND: DISCIPLE will shoot this year. The website reports, "‘Strangeland: Disciple’ comes 11 years after the original, and continues the story of a schizophrenic sexual sadist who lures victims via the Internet. ‘Strangeland: Disciple’ will come complete with an NC-17 rating right off the bat, and Snider promises it will be “ultra-intense”. The movie will be set in the "underworld of body modification fetishists, amid the secret sado-masochistic freak societies of perverted pleasures that lurk just underneath the veneer of respectable society.""

Ten years later, Tom Hanniger returns to Harmony on Valentine's Day, still haunted by the deaths he caused. Struggling to make amends with his past, he grapples with unresolved feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Sarah, who is now married to his best friend, Axel, the town sheriff. But tonight, after years of peace, something from Harmony's dark past has returned. Wearing a miner's mask and armed with a pickaxe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. And as his footsteps come ever closer, Tom, Sarah and Axel realize in terror that it just might be Harry Warden who's come back to claim them...

ICONS EXCLUSIVE: FREE DOWNLOAD - HALLOWEEN: THE SHAPE OF HORROR CD EP!
Back on October 30th & 31st of 2006, John Carpenter's original horror classic HALLOWEEN played in select theaters across the country. Fans that caught those screenings were treated to a short featurette titled HALLOWEEN: THE SHAPE OF HORROR, which featured new interviews with HALLOWEEN alumni Nancy Loomis, PJ Soles and Charles Cyphers, as well as Rob Zombie talking for the first time since he was announced as director about what he was planning to do with his remake of HALLOWEEN. Those 2 nights were the only time fans were able to see this exclusive featurette.
Enter ICONS own Robg. I was asked to come up with a few pieces of HALLOWEEN inspired music by the projects writer/director/producer Anthony Masi. Considering Rob Zombie's music had a bit of an "industrial" flavor to it, I opted to play around with some of the classic Carpenter themes and inject that style of music into them. Along the way, I came up with 2 completely original pieces of music as well that were just inspired by the whole process. When I was done, I had a neat little 6 song EP of HALLOWEEN inspired music that I submitted for consideration. Only a few seconds of one of the pieces made it into the final featurette and the remainder of the EP has remained unheard since.
Note: This is not in any way, shape or form affiliated with the current or previous series of HALLOWEEN movies. This was simply musical experiementation inspired by the original movies and the prospect of Rob Zombie launching a new series. Hope you enjoy the EP!

Taylor Lautner To Reprise His Role As Jacob In TWLIGHT Sequel "NEW MOON"!
It's official. Here's the press release as posted by Ain't It Cool News:
TAYLOR LAUTNER TO REPRISE HIS ROLE AS JACOB IN NEW MOON
Los Angeles, CA January 7, 2009 – Summit Entertainment and director Chris Weitz are pleased to confirm that Taylor Lautner will reprise his role as Jacob Black in the TWILIGHT franchise’s next film installment NEW MOON.
“I'm very happy that Taylor will be playing Jacob Black in NEW MOON and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit, the producers and Stephenie Meyer,” said Weitz. “The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part.”
“My experience on TWILIGHT was wonderful and I am looking forward to continuing on with the team for NEW MOON,” said Lautner. “I have been working hard preparing for the physicality that this role will require and can’t wait to get started with the filming of NEW MOON.”
In NEW MOON, which will be released domestically November 20, 2009, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested. Production on NEW MOON is scheduled to begin in the coming months and the studio is planning to release the film on November 20, 2009.
The action-packed, modern day vampire love story and blockbuster success of the first film in the series entitled TWILIGHT was released in theatres on November 21st grossing $69.6 million domestically during its first weekend. To date the film has grossed over $177 million domestically.
Lautner had the role of Jacob in TWILIGHT and also has been seen in CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2 and THE ADVENTURES OF SHARKBOY AND LAVAGIRL 3-D.
Lautner is represented by WMA.

Magnet (the genre division of Magnolia Pictures) sent over the press release for MUTANT CHRONICLES, a film they just secured US distribution for which will debut Friday March 27th on VOD (video on demand) followed by a limited theatrical run starting Friday, April 24th. The sci-fi action epic was directed by Simon Hunter (LIGHTHOUSE) from a script by Phillip Eisner (EVENT HORIZON) and stars Thomas Jane (THE MIST), Ron Perlman (HELLBOY, THE LAST WINTER) and John Malkovich. Check out the full press release after the image!
NEW YORK - January 6, 2009 - The Wagner/Cuban Companies' Magnet Releasing (www.magnetreleasing.com) announced today that it has acquired US rights to the sci-fi/action epic, MUTANT CHRONICLES. With an impressive ensemble cast, including Thomas Jane (THE MIST), Ron Perlman (HELLBOY), Devon Aoki (SIN CITY) and John Malkovich, MUTANT CHRONICLES boasts incredible special effects and riveting, action-packed battle sequences in a painstakingly crafted post-apocalyptic landscape. An Edward R. Pressman production directed by Simon Hunter and written by Philip Eisner, the film is long anticipated by fans of the Mutant Chronicles intellectual property, which is owned by Paradox Entertainment and based on a classic role-playing game that has already inspired card games, video games, novels, comic books and collectible miniatures. As part of the Wagner/Cuban Companies' Ultra VOD program, MUTANT CHRONICLES will premiere on VOD on Friday, March 27th, 2009, followed by a theatrical release in select cities on Friday, April 24th.
MUTANT CHRONICLES is set in the year 2707, on an unrecognizable Earth where a war is raging between four giant corporations who control the planet as they battle over the planet's dwindling resources. This war is soon rendered irrelevant when an errant bomb shatters an ancient buried seal, releasing a horrific mutant army from its prison deep within the earth. As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a squad of ragged soldiers, led by Mitch Hunter (Thomas Jane), descends into the earth in a last ditch effort to destroy the mutants and save mankind.
"MUTANT CHRONICLES is a blast," said Magnolia Pictures President Eamonn Bowles. "It's an action-packed thriller with a dynamite cast and very impressive production values. We're thrilled to add it to Magnet's slate of quality genre pictures."
"Simon Hunter is an exciting cinematic talent who has created a provocative world for MUTANT CHRONICLES," said producer Edward R. Pressman. "I see in Simon the rare visionary quality that was evident to me when working with Sam Raimi, Alex Proyas, and Brian De Palma on their early films. MUTANT CHRONICLES is just the beginning for him."
Producers on the film, in addition to Pressman, include Tim Dennison, Peter La Terriere, Stephen Belafonte, and Pras Michel. Grosvenor Park and Isle of Man were the principal financiers. The deal was negotiated by Magnet/Magnolia Senior Vice President Tom Quinn and Head of Business Affairs Jason Janego with Cinetic Media, who negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers.

(Read details on that via MTV's website HERE!)

Based on the original 1972 shocker from Wes Craven & Sean Cunningham, the remake was directed by Dennis Iliadis (HARDCORE) from a script by Adam Alleca and stars Garret Dillahunt (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN), Rhys Coiro, Sara Paxton (AQUAMARINE), Martha MacIsaac (SUPERBAD), Riki Lindhome, Tony Goldwyn (DEXTER) and Monica Potter (SAW).
Shock Till You Drop reports that we should be seeing the first trailer for THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT in theaters before prints of THE UNBORN.

Universal and Rogue Pictures have released the first 2 images from Wes Craven's latest movie 25/8. Craven wrote and directed 25/8, which stars Max Thierot, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, Emily Meade, Nick Lashaway, John Magaro, Paulina Olszynski, Raul Esparza, Zena Grey, Trevor St. John, Alexandra Wilson, Jeremy Chu & Frank Grillo.
In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven teens, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? Only one of the kids knows the answer.
Adam "Bug" Heller (Max Thierot) was supposed to die on the bloody night his father went insane. Unaware of his dad’s terrifying crimes, he has been plagued by nightmares since he was a baby. But if Bug hopes to save his friends from the monster that’s returned, he must face an evil that won’t rest…until it finishes the job it began the day he was born.
Wes Craven's 25/8 is scheduled for release later this year. More when we hear it!
For the last couple of years, Sony's Screen Gems has been trying to figure out a way to remake the classic 1985 vampire flick FRIGHT NIGHT. However, writers brought in were (for whatever reason) encouraged to set it in an amusement park (ala Tobe Hooper's THE FUNHOUSE), rumor had it because "if you google 'Fright Night', you'll come up with the amusement park ride! That's what kids know!" And by kids, that meant they were aiming for a PG-13 version, a decision solidified by PROM NIGHT's huge opening box-office numbers.
Even original FRIGHT NIGHT writer/director/creator Tom Holland had a lunch with the powers that be to discuss the possibilities a FRIGHT NIGHT resurrection. (He had the idea for a proper sequel.) But again, they were sticking to their amusement park idea! I'm not even sure the version they were developing even had vampires in it.
Regardless, Shock Till You Drop is reporting that the remake is currently "dead". Staked! Like Jerry Dandrige! The site says, "Insiders tell us, the Fright Night remake has been abandoned (for now) after a few cracks at the script yielded unsuccessful results."
So for now, FRIGHT NIGHT is safe. However, the article also states that Sony Screen Gems is looking at remaking HELL NIGHT, the 1981 flick by Tom DeSimone (REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS!).
And don't forget that we've still got 2 FRIGHT exclusive commentary tracks for FRIGHT NIGHT for FREE download! The first commentary track features writer/director Tom Holland, stars Chris Sarandon (Jerry Dandrige) & Jonathan Stark (Billy Cole), moderated by Tim Sullivan. The second commentary track features writer/director Tom Holland, William Ragsdale (Charley Brewster), Stephen Geoffreys ("Evil" Ed Thompson) & FX artist Randall William Cook, moderated by Jeremy Smith (aka Mr. Beaks from Ain't It Cool News) and hosted by Tim Sullivan. Click either image below to be brought directly to our "pirate" commentary page, and download all 3 FREE commentaries for keeps! Tim will queue you up at the beginning of each commentary track so you can listen along with your DVD's!

George A. Romero's... Of The Dead: On a small island off North America's coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet...the islanders can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those the once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters. They commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live 'normal' lives...with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero's Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?
A slew of images from the upcoming sequel THE DESCENT: PART 2 have emerged via photographer Ollie Upton's official website. (Upton acted as a unit photographer on the movie) Directed by Jon Harris (who edited the first DESCENT) and stars Shauna MacDonald (reprising her role as Sarah), Natalie Mendoza, Gavan O'Herlihy, Joshua Dallas and Anna Skellern. No word yet on a US release, but the sequel to Neil Marshall's modern classic fright film is expected to open in the UK early summer. Check out your first look at THE DESCENT: PART 2 below!
More Details On FRIDAY THE 13TH 4-6 "Deluxe Edition" DVD's!
Earlier today, we posted speculation that Paramount was planning more "deluxe" special editions of the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise after filmmaker Adam Green revealed on his blog that he & Joe Lynch recorded a commentary track for FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4: THE FINAL CHAPTER. Now, several horror folks have confirmed that they've also recorded commentary tracks for upcoming editions of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4: THE FINAL CHAPTER, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 5: A NEW BEGINNING and JASON LIVES: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI.
Dread Central'sUncle Creepy tackled the commentary track for Part 5 with Horror.com's Staci Layne Wilson. Uncle Creepy and Shock Till You Drop'sRyan Rotten handled moderating duties on Part 6. And as reported earlier Adam Green (HATCHET) and Joe Lynch (WRONG TURN 2) recorded a commentary for Part 4.
No word yet on other special features or other commentaries but rest assured, with Dan Farrands producing, these discs are defintiely in good hands. (Farrands also recently directed the FRIDAY THE 13TH documentary HIS NAME WAS JASON which hits store shelves on February 3rd)
You can check out a few pictures from the commentary sessions over on Dread Central's site HERE!
Details on the special editions of FRIDAY's 1 through 3 can be found HERE!
Shock Till You Drop posted this cool video that's apparently been live on You Tube since September. This could very well be the very first early teaser trailer for [REC] 2, which according to the site just wrapped principal photography with Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plazo once again returning to write & direct. The first Spanish import [REC] was remade for American audiences as the movie QUARANTINE and opened in theaters back in October of 2008. Little is known about the follow-up as of yet, but check out this quick tease below!

Last summer, it was reported that producer Scott Spiegel would be taking a crack at writing & directing HOSTEL: PART III, continuing where series creator Eli Roth left off with his HOSTEL sequel. There's been no word or confirmation since then, but now Shock Till You Drop has a quick update. The site reports that "Screen Gems is aggressively out to writers now for Hostel: Part III which will debut on the DVD market. Sources tell us the producers are thinking about setting this entry in the States."
No word on what Spiegel's involvement is as of now, but we can assume he'll stay on board in a producer capacity as he did for the first 2 HOSTEL films. More when we hear it!
Check out our vintage interview with ELI ROTH, post-CABIN FEVER, pre-HOSTEL by clicking the frame below!
A few months ago, it was reported that Relativity Media is in negotiations with Universal to acquire Rogue Pictures, the studio's genre label. According to Variety, it's become official. Relativity has inherited at least 30 Rogue projects in various stages of development now including THE STRANGERS 2, LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, Wes Craven's new film 25/8 and HACK/SLASH.
Rogue has had "success in the horror space in particular, which is something we can expand upon," said Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh. "This purchase allows us to pair our production and finance abilities alongside Universal's extraordinary marketing and distribution team, under the umbrella of a strong and highly focused brand."

New Special Editions Of FRIDAY THE 13TH 4-6 Coming Soon?
On February 3rd, 2009, Paramount plans on releasing new "Deluxe" special editions of the first 3 FRIDAY THE 13TH films, FRIDAY THE 13TH, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART II & FRIDAY THE 13TH PART III 3-D just in time to coincide with the release of Platinum Dunes new take on Jason Voorhees. (Full details on those discs HERE!) But are they stopping at 3?
Rumor has it that Paramount started recording commentary tracks in preparation for "Deluxe Editions" of FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER, FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING and JASON LIVES: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI for release sometime later in the year. Filmmaker Adam Green (HATCHET, SPIRAL, the upcoming FROZEN) mentioned in his My Space blog that he recorded a commentary track with Joe Lynch (WRONG TURN 2) for the FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 4 disc. This at least confirms that something is definitely in the works for the remainder of the FRIDAY THE 13TH series. (And quite frankly, it's about time!)
We'll bring you more details as we hear 'em! Check out the DVD covers and feature listings for the first 3 films at our previous news post HERE!
Sneak Peek At Michael Myers Mask In Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN 2!
Rob Zombie unveiled a nice treat for HALLOWEEN fans this morning on his My Space blog. It's a look at an early sculpt for the Michael Myers mask in his upcoming sequel HALLOWEEN 2. (Pictured below!) FX guru Wayne Toth is once again providing Myers with his killer visage and also providing the film's gory set pieces.
Zombie says, "If you thought Michael was fucked before, you ain't seen nothing yet! He is bigger, meaner and more psycho than Dr. Loomis ever thought possible". Should be interesting to see which direction Zombie takes his H2 in! Check out more shots of the mask at his blog HERE!
The follow up, going under the shooting title of H2 picks up immediately where the first HALLOWEEN left off. At press time only Tyler Mane is officially signed on to reprise his role as Michael Myers. (No word on Scout Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell or Danielle Harris yet.) Shooting begins in March of 2009 with a August 28th, 2009 release date locked. Rob Zombie will write & direct.
Dimension Films have decided to push up the release date of Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN 2 (aka ROB ZOMBIE'S H2) from it's originally announced October 2009 date to August 28th, 2009. As you recall, Zombie's first HALLOWEEN pic also opened to huge success in August of 2007, so it's no doubt that Dimension is hoping to replicate the successful opening weekend of the first. I just hope this leaves Zombie with enough time to finish his film properly! Shooting begins in March of 2009, so they have to shoot it, edit it and get it in theaters by August!
The follow up, going under the shooting title of H2 picks up immediately where the first HALLOWEEN left off. At press time only Tyler Mane is officially signed on to reprise his role as Michael Myers. Rob Zombie will write & direct.
