Synopsis For Sam Raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL!

Sam Raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL is currently lensing in LA and now Universal has revealed the film's official plot synopsis. Here's what we have to expect: "Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine fatefully chooses the latter, shaming Mrs. Ganush and dispossessing her of her home.

In retaliation, the old woman places the powerful curse of the Lamia on Christine, transforming her life into a living hell. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by a skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine return her life to normal, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable; how far will she go to break free of the curse?"

Alrighty then! Let's hope Raimi's return to the genre is a worthwhile one!

MGM Planning ROBOCOP Remake? ... In 3D?!

Caught this news on Bloody-Disgusting, who in turn got it from indieWIRE where word came out of Cannes '08 about a ROBOCOP remake... in 3D?! "For MGM, among those is a continuation of Bond and Pink Panther sequels, an announced remake of "Fame" and a not-yet-announced remake of "RoboCop," possibly in 3-D. "'RoboCop" would be great in 3-D, as would something we're hoping to announce soon," said Parent. (One of the reps for MGM.)

I don't know. Paul Verhoeven really caught lightening in a bottle with the first ROBOCOP, and it remains one of my all time favorite films to this day. Can it possibly be remade?! And will ROBOCOP in 3D make it cooler? We'll have to wait for the official word!

Stephen King's DOLAN'S CADILLAC Filming in Canada!

DOLAN'S CADILLAC FILMING IN CANADA - Christian Slater, Emmanuelle Vaugier and Wes Bentley bring Stephen King short story to the big screen.

May 29, 2008 (Regina, SK) DOLAN'S CADILLAC, a feature film adaptation of Stephen King's acclaimed short story, began shooting in Regina, Canada and Moose Jaw, Canada on Monday, May 26.

The film stars Christian Slater (Bobby, Windtalkers), Emmanuelle Vaugier (CSI: NY, Two and a Half Men) and Wes Bentley (American Beauty, Ghost Rider).

Based on one of Stephen King's most suspenseful short stories, Dolan's Cadillac is a psychological thriller in the vein of The Dead Zone and The Secret Window.

Tom Robinson (Wes Bentley) is a peaceful, law-abiding schoolteacher until his wife Elizabeth (Emmanuelle Vaugier) accidentally witnesses a murder. Jimmy Dolan (Christian Slater), Las Vegas' most ruthless and untouchable mob boss, never leaves behind a witness.

Haunted by the ghost of his wife, Robinson transforms himself into an obsessed vengeance machine, pushing himself beyond the breaking point of mind, body and spirit. When the two men finally meet deep in the heart of the desert, Dolan¹s Cadillac climaxes with an amazing test of wills the ultimate duel. The Cadillac, which has been Dolan¹s armor, may just as easily become his tomb.

Rhonda Baker (The Messengers, Terry Gilliam¹s Tideland) and Alain Gagnon (Snake Eyes, The Sum of All Fears) will produce.

Kevin DeWalt (Walled In, Hybrid) of Minds Eye Entertainment and Ellen Wander (Big Spender, Say Nothing) of Film Bridge International will executive produce the $9 million film.

The action-based thriller started shooting in and around Regina, SK (Canada) and Moose Jaw, SK (Canada) on May 26, 2008 and will wrap production in June after 26 shooting days.

In a departure from his recent efforts in television, Canadian Jeff Beesley (Little Mosque on the Prairie, Corner Gas) will return to feature films to direct this edgy thriller, based on Richard Dooling's (Kingdom Hospital) script adapted from Stephen King's short story, Dolan's Cadillac an ominous story that will keep audiences in suspense in its transfer from the page to the screen.

"The audience is in for a treat," says executive producer Kevin DeWalt. "We've assembled an incredibly talented cast and a highly skilled crew and are ready to deliver a quality film that will exceed audience expectations." Film Bridge International acquired the rights for international sale. "The transition from page to screen will not disappoint," promises executive producer Ellen Wander. "This story is one of vengeance, Stephen King style."

May 28, 2008: PAUL’S BRAIN TRUST LAUNCHES NEXUS 6 LEVEL FUNDRAISING EVENT

New Series of Charity Events to Include Special Screenings, Online Auctions of Rare Movie Artifacts and Memorabilia

BURBANK, CA – Paul Prischman, unquestionably “one of the good ones” – dedicated husband, father, and friend; DVD producer; gifted artist; comic book lover; musician; and worshipper at the altar of all things film – was recently diagnosed with grade IV brain cancer.

Paul’s Brain Trust, an effort to fundraise for our friend Paul and his family during this difficult time, has put together our first major event: a screening of BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT, attended by several cast and crew, and followed by a Q&A with director Ridley Scott, at the Steven J. Ross Theater on the Warner Bros. lot, Saturday, June 14th at 2:00 pm

Attendees will receive a limited edition BLADE RUNNER collectible courtesy of Warner Home Video. Additionally, we will be auctioning off ten premium passes for a private walking tour of the BLADE RUNNER locations on the Warner Bros. backlot hosted by one of our special guests from the film, as well as an opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind piece of BLADE RUNNER history.

BACKGROUND

Raised in the 60’s and 70’s on Universal Monster movies, Edgar Rice Burroughs, comic books, Tolkien and STAR WARS, Paul and his wife Cristin moved to Los Angeles from Chicago in 2000. Paul began working at the now-legendary Laser Disc/home theater specialty store “Dave’s Video.” While at Dave’s, Paul met respected DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika, who, in the spring of 2003, hired Paul to assist in the finishing stages of the comprehensive ALIEN QUADRILOGY boxed set.

Later that same year, Paul was hired by Guillermo del Toro to do storyboard work on HELLBOY: a dream project for Paul (whose devotion to HELLBOY is documented in Frank Darabont’s introduction to the HELLBOY: ODDER JOBS short story anthology).

Paul went on to focus professionally on DVD production at the Lauzirika Motion Picture Company (his list of credits as producer include THE FLY II special edition as well as MONSTER HOUSE. He was the associate producer of such titles as AMERICAN GANGSTER, SPIDER-MAN 2, GLADIATOR: EXTENDED EDITION, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and the recent REVENGE: DIRECTOR’S CUT), culminating in his associate producing what many believe to be the holy grail of DVD boxed sets: 2007’s BLADE RUNNER Ultimate Collector’s Edition.

Paul and Cristin currently live in Los Angeles and are the proud parents of two beautiful little girls, Michaela (4) and Abigail (2).

In February of this year, an MRI revealed that Paul had a golf ball sized brain tumor in his brain stem. On March 18th, Paul underwent brain surgery. Although the tumor was successfully removed, the pathology revealed it to be Grade 4 brain cancer – Gliobastoma Multiforme (GBM) – a particularly aggressive cancer with a very low survival rate. Paul is currently rehabilitating from surgery while undergoing radiation, chemotherapy, and other costly treatments.

The outpouring of support from countless individuals who know and love Paul has been amazing. PAUL’S BRAIN TRUST is a group of Paul’s friends who have come together to coordinate fundraising events to help Paul and his family.

Our first planned event will be a screening of BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT, where it belongs: on the big screen. Saturday, June 14th at 2:00 pm in the state-of-the-art Steven J. Ross Theater on the Warner Bros. lot. That's right: the same Burbank backlot where BLADE RUNNER was produced more than a quarter century ago. Director Ridley Scott will be on hand for a rare Q&A, along with many of BLADE RUNNER's original collaborators. Attending cast and crew members will be announced soon but it will be an extraordinary event not to be missed. All who attend will receive a limited edition BLADE RUNNER collectible courtesy of Warner Home Video.

We will also be auctioning off ten premium passes for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that no serious BLADE RUNNER fan will be able to pass up: A private walking tour of the BLADE RUNNER locations on the Warner Bros. back lot hosted by one of our special guests from the film. Walk the very streets where this science fiction classic was filmed and hear fascinating inside stories from the set, firsthand. The identity of the BLADE RUNNER tour guide will be revealed soon, but rest assured, it will be a truly amazing experience. Premium pass holders will also receive a BLADE RUNNER gift bag, including a rare collectible item not available elsewhere, and our top bidder will win a one-of-a-kind piece of BLADE RUNNER history. More details to come!

THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN Now Stopping July 11th?!

Oh come on, LIONSGATE! Word has come down that Ryuhei Kitamura's adaptation of Clive Barker's THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN is being moved up from it's August 1st release date and will now open on July 11th... the same day as HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY. Why LIONSGATE would move the film out of a slot with NO competition to one with Del Toro's latest (both of which would garner the same audience) is beyond me. My only theory is that the sooner they get it in theaters, the sooner they can get the DVD out. (October for Halloween season, perhaps?) Anyways, PLEASE go support THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN when it's released on July 11th. We need more original Clive Barker adaptations! Especially ones that push the envelope on R-rated horror like MEAT TRAIN does! If you don't go? Then don't complain when the PG-13 PROM NIGHT remake is number one at the box office, and the studios decide to churn out more movies like that. Argh!

STUART GORDON On Lovecraft's THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP!

Shock Till You Drop caught up with filmmaker Stuart Gordon (who's latest film STUCK sees limited release on May 30th, see trailer HERE) and he confirmed that another H. P. Lovecraft adaptation is in his future! He tells Shock that casting has begun for THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP, which Gordon's making for production company Amicus Entertainment. Longtime collaborator Dennis Paoli (who also co-scripted RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND with Gordon) also co-wrote the script.

Gordon tells Shock, "In our version it's about a psychiatrist who gets this patient, a young girl who comes in, who he thinks has multiple personality disorder. And he knows that in all cases of multiple personality involves sexual abuse. So, he's very intrigued by this girl, but he's also very drawn to her. One of her personalities keeps trying to seduce him. Eventually he gives in and he's having sex with her and he says to her, 'Is this good for you?' And she says, 'Why don't you see for yourself?' Suddenly they switch bodies and he's now in her body and she's in his. This lasts for a few seconds and it's like, what the hell happened? It turns out this girl is actually a sorceress and wants to take over his body and she is eventually going to become him."

GUILLERMO DEL TORO On HATER!

Variety is reporting that Universal has acquired HATER, David Moody's 2006 novel & to be produced by Mark Johnson and Guillermo del Toro. According to the article, "The thriller is about an epidemic of random violence in which ordinary people strike lethally without warning or remorse. Book will be adapted for the screen by Glen Mazzara." Sounds... kinda like THE SIGNAL?

"What I loved about 'Hater' is it recognizes the reality that we live in, where it is incredibly easy to polarize, to hate for gender, race, age," del Toro told Daily Variety.

Pic will be developed under the first-look deal that del Toro made at U when the studio committed to "HELLBOY 2."

"HATER" was first optioned by Johnson, who originally approached del Toro to direct. But del Toro since committed to helming "THE HOBBIT," which will keep him in New Zealand for the next four years.

"I'll carry my weight on the creative side, in choosing elements and storyboarding, but it will be up to Mark and the director we choose to execute the day to day," he said. "THE HOBBIT" is a "monumental task, and I don't want to do anything that detracts from my attention to that."

Among the other projects del Toro has in development under his U deal are more "HELLBOY" films and his scripted adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS," about Antarctic explorers who encounter terror in the tundra.

"I think we need to re-create the tentpole studio horror film," del Toro said.

BRUTAL MASSACRE: A COMEDY READY FOR ITS CLOSE-UP ON DVD JULY 22ND FROM ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT

Special Edition DVD features more than 17 extended and deleted scenes

BURBANK, CA – Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your DVD player…Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Brutal Massacre: A Comedy, the irreverent mockumentary about the horror film shoot from Hell! The film will be available on DVD July 22nd. Written and directed by Stevan Mena (Malevolence) and boasting an all-star cast of horror film legends -- all in comedic roles -- Brutal Massacre: A Comedy is a hilarious look into the chaotic world of low budget independent filmmaking, as a once-successful horror film director tries to make his comeback vehicle. The Brutal Massacre DVD goes even deeper behind-the-scenes of this cross-genre epic, with a “making-of” featurette as well as 17 extended and deleted scenes! SRP is a seriously inexpensive $26.97.

Brutal Massacre: A Comedy is becoming the toast of the horror convention circuit, including recent cast appearances at HorrorHound Weekend, Chiller Weekend and Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in Los Angeles – where the ENTIRE headline cast appeared on stage to discuss the film! Delivering laughs in the best mockumentary tradition of This Is Spinal Tap, Brutal Massacre gives fans of horror and comedy a “Best in Horror-Show” performance featuring such horror and comedy film luminaries as David Naughton (An American Werewolf In London); Brian O’Halloran (Clerks, Chasing Amy); Gerry Bednob (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story); Gunnar Hansen (the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre); Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker and Theresa Tilly, aka “The Ladies of The Evil Dead;,” Ken Foree (the original Dawn of the Dead), and Vincent Butta (The Pick-Up Artist).

In the film, Naughton plays Harry Penderecki, a once heralded horror auteur who now finds himself on the outside looking in at Hollywood . Though renowned for such groundbreaking horror classics as I’ll Take the Ring Back and the Finger Too! and Sasquatch at the Mall, he hasn’t had a hit in a while and most in the industry have scratched his name off their “A” list.

But Harry isn’t completely down and out. He’s embarking on what he hopes to be his return to the big leagues with Brutal Massacre. Reuniting his longtime filmmaking team, Harry also has the entire production shadowed by documentarian Bert Campbell (Butta). But what starts as a successful convention appearance announcing the start of filming quickly devolves into a battle of Sisyphean proportions to capture even a single, usable frame of footage. Between incompetent special effects artists, temperamental actors, bad location advice, sexual shenanigans, on-set tragedies and the usual budget overruns, Harry struggles to keep his sanity while facing overwhelming obstacles to finish the picture and find himself at the top once again.

AFTER DARK FILMS Producing BUTTERFLY EFFECT 3!

I have yet to see the first BUTTERFLY EFFECT because of my dislike of Ashton Kutcher, and I have a DVD of BUTTERFLY EFFECT 2 sitting on my counter because Erica Durance (from SMALLVILLE and the crap-classic HOUSE OF THE DEAD!) is in it. So, I guess I should catch up before After Dark Film's 8 FILMS TO DIE FOR next year because they're now producing and releasing BUTTERFLY EFFECT 3, so says The Hollywood Reporter.

"Benderspink and FilmEngine will produce the third installment of The Butterfly Effect along with After Dark Films, which will distribute it theatrically in the U.S. as part of its After Dark Horrorfest "8 Films to Die For" series. Holly Brix ("The Lost Girls") wrote the screenplay, which centers on a young man discovers he has inherited the powers of "The Butterfly Effect" and attempts to solve the mystery of his high school girlfriend's death using his newfound ability, only to unwittingly unleash a vicious serial killer. Production will start September 1 in Vancouver with casting underway."

"We're taking the Butterfly Effect to a whole new level of insanity," says BenderSpink's Chris Bender. "Holly's script is a tremendous ride and her take on time-travel is one that's truly original. This film will blow audiences away. We're thrilled to bring this franchise back to the big screen through After Dark Films and Horrorfest."

Final HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY One-Sheet!

Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).

Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development--pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann--the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.

More SAW V Details Emerge! SAW VI Director Annouced!

SAW V doesn't even hit theaters until October 24th, yet the director David Hackl has already revealed who will be taking over for him for next year's inevitable SAW VI. SHOCK reports that SAW I-V editor Kevin Greutert will be making his directorial debut on SAW VI.

Meanwhile, a press junket recently took place in LA for SAW V, and here's various tidbits we've picked up from sites that were present! Rumor has it that Hackl is unveiling the series best traps yet for his entry. Producer Mark Berg told SHOCK, "I'm convinced he had a couple of traps that he knew he had that he wouldn't give Darren [Bousman]. We did the deal with him to direct Saw V before we did Saw IV. So, during IV he must've had a couple of traps up his sleeve!"

Hackl seems enthusiastic for fans to see the opening he's cooked up for SAW V saying, "Our opening is...it's something. People turn away in the editing room when they come in and see it. Our composer, Charlie Clouser, can't even watch it."

Berg acknowledges the complexity of SAW IV's twists and narrative & assured fans that SAW V would be more straight forward. He tell's SHOCK, "To this day I still hear people who didn't get that it happened at the same time [as part III]. Maybe we didn't do a good enough job in executing it, in all honesty. But Saw V is a little be more linear, easier to follow. We'll have two great twists at the end. My hats off to Patrick and Marcus, I don't know how they do it." Click HERE to read the entire article, including comments from Costas Mandylor on his allegiance to Jigsaw!

Meanwhile, Bloody-Disgusting's Spooky Dan found out that 3 endings were shot for SAW V, all of which will of course be included on the DVD release. Hackl told B-D, "We actually shot three different endings, they each say different things, and set up the story for SAW VI in different ways." Click HERE for B-D's report where the producers chat about the upcoming SAW video game!

Perhaps we'll finally see this excised SAW IV trap in SAW V?

Young JASON VOORHEES Revealed! FRIDAY THE 13TH Update!

Well, at least the producers on the FRIDAY THE 13TH remake are posting frequent updates on their new blog. Today, Brad Fuller posted a picture of young actor Caleb Guss who portrays Jason Voorhees as a child. The blog post describes Guss's work & look on the film a bit. Fuller writes, "The make-up is awesome, freaky and true to the original. Though he only worked a few days - the imagery adds a very disturbing depth to the character." I look forward to Guss's band in 20 years from now, NEW FIRST JASON REDUX! I'm sure we'll hear more shortly. In the meantime, take a peek of young Jason Voorhees (sans make-up) below and click HERE to read the Platinum Dunes blog for yourself. (You can log in and tell them what you think of their remakes!)

Joe Dante To Direct BAT OUT OF HELL & THE HOLE!

Variety is reporting that genre vet Joe Dante (THE HOWLING, GREMLINS, THE BURBS) is set to helm the indie horror project BAT OUT OF HELL for Parallel Zide and VooDoo Prods. "Bat Out of Hell," written by Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan, (writers of John Carpenter's CIGARETTE BURNS & PRO-LIFE) centers on a red-eye flight from L.A. to New York during which hijackers confront the monstrous cargo. Shooting is expected to begin later this year. Also, Shock Till You Drop.com revealed exclusively that Dante has signed on to direct a project written by VACANCY's Mark L. Smith called THE HOLE. Shock's article reports, "the story follows a family, on the run from their past, who seek shelter in a house where an ominous hole is discovered in the basement. This obviously begs the question: What is the secret of the hole?" They also hint at THE HOLE being PG-13 fare. (Hell, THE BURBS was PG-13, wasn't it?)

The Original DAWN OF THE DEAD... In 3D?! Remake Sequel?!

Producer Richard Rubinstein spoke with FANGORIA and revealed that there are plans to convert George A. Romero's original DAWN OF THE DEAD into 3D!? In-Three, Inc. of Agoura Hill, CA is currently handling the “dimensionalization” process.

Rubinstein told FANGO, “When (producer on DAWN remake) Mike Messina and I began to investigate using In-Three’s technique, I was very skeptical. I couldn’t see how it could be used without re-editing George’s film, which I was not going to do. I was also concerned that converting a 29-year-old movie would not be competitive qualitatively with the new 3-D live-action features being shot today. I was wrong in both cases. George’s DAWN OF THE DEAD can be reformatted into 3-D without any editing, and the image looks spectacular! As it stands now, it will take about a year to complete the conversion of the whole film.”

The article also points out that In-Three’s work "has been hailed by George Lucas, James Cameron and Peter Jackson, among others." The article also mentions Rubenstein's plans to produce a sequel to 2004's DAWN OF THE DEAD remake (directed by Zack Snyder and written by James Gunn), as well as a new version of Frank Herbert’s DUNE with Peter Berg at the helm. Official Synopsis For THE WOLFMAN!

SHOCK posted the full synopsis for THE WOLFMAN, currently shooting with director Joe Johnston behind the camera. THE WOLFMAN stars Benecio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving and features creature FX from the legendary Rick Baker! It's due out in theaters Spring 2009! Check out the full synopsis below!

Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, THE WOLFMAN brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother...and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.

Lawrence Talbot's childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother's fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline (Hugo Weaving) has come to investigate.

As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself...one he never imagined existed.

THE GATE: 20 YEARS LATER Still In The Works!

Way back in December of 2007, we ran a report about a new version of THE GATE, supposedly to be shot in 3D!? After several months of silence on the project, word has come out of Cannes that Randall William Cook is in fact directing THE GATE: 20 YEARS LATER from H20 Motion Picture. It's supposedly a sequel to the original, rather then a remake, although no mention if the plan is still to release the movie in 3D. Cook, an FX artist for WETA has a long history with genre pics, having worked Peter Jackson's LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and KING KONG, as well as the original THE GATE and THE GATE 2. I'm a HUGE fan of the original, as well as it's so-bad-it's-good sequel. Fingers crossed that this is a worthy follow-up!

Check out our vintage FRIGHT exclusive interview with the writer/director of the original THE GATE (and it's sequel) TIBOR TAKAS! (Click the frame to read it!)

First Photo From FRIDAY THE 13TH? Scribes Found For NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET?

Bloody-Disgusting is now the official website for all Platinum Dunes happenings, so producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form checked in via their B-D blog with the first photo of them on the set of the new FRIDAY THE 13TH remake, currently lensing in Austin, TX with Marcus Nispel (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake) directing.

Fuller has plenty to say on the new Jason Voorhees via his blog. Here's an excerpt: "Tonight, my fourth on set, but the first that brought me face to face with Mr. Voorhees in all his glory - I can tell you without hesitation that every minute of frustration, pain and misery was worth it - really worth it, because tonight Jason Voorhees scared the shit out of me. No, he didn't threaten me with that huge machete; all he did was look into the camera and every hair on my body stood up. Derek Mears captures the best of the all the Jason's and injects the character with his own element of tangible menace." For the complete blog post, click HERE.

Meanwhile, B-D also reports that FRIDAY THE 13TH and FREDDY VS JASON screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are on queue to script the new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake, also from Platinum Dunes. Read the details HERE. Check out the production photo from FRIDAY THE 13TH below!

John Waters 'TIL DEATH DO US PART On DVD July 1st!

BCI will be releasing John Waters foray into television 'TIL DEATH DO US PART on DVD July 1st, 2008! The series that lets Waters run amok with a campy marriage of madcap melodrama and macabre humor will be available in a 3 disc set containing all 13 episodes. Check out the complete press release and DVD box art below!

BETTER DEAD THAN WED ON JULY 1ST

NAVARRE CORPORATION’S BCI ANNOUNCES JOHN WATERS’ CULT TV SHOW

“’Til Death Do Us Part”

FOR THE FIRST TIME ON DVD

DON’T FEAR THE GROOM REAPER!

Los Angeles, CA – Director John Waters has become an icon of independent film with ground-breaking works like Pink Flamingos and Hairspray, so it’s no surprise that this foray into television would push the envelope in both content and taste. On July 1st, BCI, a Navarre Corporation Company, will release ‘Til Death Do Us Part, the series that lets Waters run amok with a campy marriage of madcap melodrama and macabre humor. This beautifully packaged 3-disc box set contains all 13 episodes (plus a bouquet of never-before-seen bonus footage of Waters at work) and will be available at the SRP of $29.98.

“We are pleased to present this twisted TV show to our audience, not just because it features an original talent like John Waters, but also because it’s a unique series that many missed the first time it aired,” said Cliff MacMillan, BCI’s Director of Brand Management and Acquisitions. “We know fans of Waters will love it, but so will anyone with an interest in the offbeat.”

John Waters is the host of this wickedly amusing anthology series about what happens after the honeymoon. Known to the viewer simply as “the Groom Reaper,” Waters leads us through slyly sinful stories of vindictive and vicious husbands and wives with each cautionary tale ending in one spouse pushing up the daisies - always to the delight of our naughty narrator.

"We asked fans if they wanted to see this amazing show on DVD, and they said, ‘I do!’” stated Jeff Siegel, FremantleMedia's VP of Home Entertainment for the Americas. “Now, with BCI, we are happy to provide them with an excellent shower gift. That is, if the shower they are planning is anything like the one in Psycho."

‘Til Death Do Us Part is like no other TV series - an unlikely marital mash-up of ‘50s soap opera hysterics, the black comedy of “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” and a touch of good old tabloid sensationalism that all adds up to perverse entertainment that’s custom made for the wicked wit and demented mind of John Waters.

GINGERDEAD MAN 2: PASSION OF THE CRUST Press Release!

Yesterday, we posted an exclusive very un-PC and not-safe-for-work video clip from the upcoming (sure-to-be-classic) GINGERDEAD MAN 2: PASSION OF THE CRUST. Today, we're sharing with you the official press release, which offers plenty of hilarious tid-bits about everyone's favorite cookie killer! Read on to find out why Gary Busey isn't returning as the voice of the "gingerdead man" and who's set to make cameo appearances in the sequel! Due out on DVD June 5th, check out the full press release below. And watch the controversial clip HERE!

“SACRILICIOUS” Gingerdead Man 2: Passion of the Crust coming soon!

Bad yeast rises again as Full Moon Entertainment’s “Gingerdead Man 2: Passion of the Crust” hits “Video on Demand” and all major DVD outlets in early June 5 2008.

The Ultimate in Bad Taste

Gingerdead Man 2: Passion of the Crust

Produced By Charles Band
Co-Produced By William Butler and John Vulich
Written By Eunice Burns, Carolynn Applebee and Silvia St Croix
Directed By Silvia St Croix

The sequel to the original film “The Gingerdead Man” is this time co-produced by horror staples, WILLIAM BUTLER (Furnace, Madhouse, Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3, Night of the Living Dead 1990), JOHN VULICH (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Files) and takes place at a fledgling low budget movie studio desperate for a hit… But before the film within the film “Tiny Terrors 9: Purgatory of the Petite” even gets rolling, all hell breaks loose as the murderous and violent, yet chewy and delicious Gingerdead Man makes the scene, moving from set to set, continuing his bloody killing spree in search of a new vessel before his cookie body gets too stale and crumbles away.

“This film has a little something for everyone - evil robots, angry dwarves, lusty old scream queens, vampires, possessed hand puppets, “Make-a-Wish” kids, vigorous spankings, spaceships and not to mention the depiction of an evil spice-cookie being relentlessly crucified for your sins.”  “That alone, is worth the price of admission, so just get drunk, smoke out and watch it, if you ignore it, it will destroy you”  Says Butler.  When asked about the violent crucifixion scene in the film and the potential backlash.  Butler responds “We like to think of the project as “SACRILICIOUS”.   When asked about how and even more importantly WHY the project came together, Co-producer, John Vulich adds “We we’re challenged by longtime friend, CHARLES BAND, to try and put together a comedy on a shoestring budget and with a very strict time constraint”.  “We agreed, only if we could lampoon Charlie’s own company and style”  “He agreed so here we are.”

The film is dedicated to all of the hard working low budget film makers out there, or whoever had the balls to make their own film….and the people who mock them.   The film was screened last week to a standing room only theater in Los Angeles and was received with hilariously overwhelming, positive feedback.  “I think the producers of Speed Racer maybe should have considered shooting their movie in five days, maybe that’s the secret”.    “I mean when you shoot a film with a four dollar budget, it’s a little hard to lose money”.   “I think the fact that Charlie was such a good sport at participating in a film which is a essentially a roast of his style, really helped make it funny.”

Gingerdead Man 2: Passion of the Crust” stars K-VON MOEZZI (Amish in the City), FRANK NICOTERO (Street Smarts), KELSEY SANDERS (Wizards of Waverly Place) and marks the return of Scream Queen veteran MICHELLE BAUER as Polly Bunderhoof, a faded 80’s starlet, turned snack-table girl whose film career was cut short by a botched set of mishapen breast implants.  Not returning to the film series is GARY BUSEY who had “schedule conflicts”.   “Gary was unavailable and Tom Sizemore was still in jail, so we opted for the “never arrested” veteran director/effects artist JOHN CARL BUECHLER to voice the G-man.  The film also includes cameos by several other genre personalities including ADAM GREEN (Hatchet), GREG NICOTERO (KNB Effects Group), DAVE DECOTEAU (The Brotherhood), as well as William Butler, John Vulich and John Buechler.

First Look At DONNIE DARKO Sequel, S. DARKO Poster!

A few days ago came the surprising announcement that UK distributor Velvet Octopus was beginning production on a DONNIE DARKO sequel titled S. DARKO later in the month. (FOX will hold distribution rights for the US.) Moviesonline.ca got the first look at the exclusive poster for the film, which you can check out HERE or below.

S. DARKO
stars Daviegh Chase (reprising her role as Samantha Darko), Ed Westwick, Briana Evigan and Justin Chatwin. According to the Moviesonline article, "This next chapter of the Darko saga picks up with Samantha, Donnie’s younger sister, who, in the wake of his death, has found herself at 17 with a broken family, mired in feelings of insignificance, and with no aspirations for the future. The archetypal character study and genre mixing of Donnie Darko is reprised, but with a fresh spin on the roles within the Tangent Universe that warrants the telling of this darker, more jaded tale of tragedy, second chances, sacrifice and rebirth."

Shooting starts May 19th in Salt Lake City, UT with director Chris Fisher at the helm.

FACES OF DEATH Special Edition DVD In The Works!

Those fiends over at Dread Central have alerted us to some more interesting news! Remember FACES OF DEATH?! I'm sure if you're of the age where you remember going through the unrated section of the mom-and-pop owned video stores, you probably stared at the box art for FACES OF DEATH or one of it's many knock-off's and/or sequels. Well, Dread's reporting that one of their own, Andrew Kasch is working with Michael Felsher's Red Shirt Pictures on a massive special edition DVD release for FACES OF DEATH! Gorgon Video will be releasing the 1978 cult shocker stateside later in the year.

Among the disc's priliminary features:

  • There will be three featurettes -- one with effects men Allan Apone & Douglas J. White, one with editor Glen Turner, and one that will feature Toe Tag founder and August Underground director Fred Vogel, essentially pouring out his love for the film.
  • A commentary track by director Conan le Cilaire that promises to be very in-depth about the entire history of Faces of Death and may help people see the movie in a new light!

More info on the original Dread post HERE!

  • Filmmaker JT PETTY has been attached to a remake of FACES OF DEATH for a long time now! Check out our vintage FRIGHT exclusive interview with JT PETTY below!

First Word On Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD 2!

George Romero recently took part in an interview with Dread Central's Uncle Creepy to promote the release of DIARY OF THE DEAD on DVD May 20th. Uncle George dropped several interesting tid-bits about the proposed DIARY OF THE DEAD sequel! Romero confessed that the screenplay for it is already done! "I’ve written the first draft of the script, [producer Peter [Grunwald]’s coming up here next week and we’re going to sand it down and refine it, so we’ll be ready. Then it’s just a matter of someone saying 'yeah, do it'." What can we expect from DIARY OF THE DEAD 2? "Actually a thing that I love, and it might be more fan pleasing, but it’s not subjective camera. I’m using a couple of the big characters but not the ones you would expect. I’m starting with the girl that took off…" Man, I really have to give DIARY another chance once it hits DVD on May 20th.

Gudino Helming New CUT THROATS NINE!

Those fiends over at Dread Central pointed us out to this cool bit of news! Former Rue Morgue editor Rodrigo Gudino has announced his first feature length debut via the pages of Rue Morgue #78. Gudino will follow up his 2 successful short films DEMONOLOGY OF DESIRE and THE EYES OF EDWARD JAMES with a remake of Joaquin Romero Marchent’s 1972 uber violent Eurowestern CUT THROATS NINE! If you'll recall, our staffer Kevin Klemm picked the original CUT THROATS NINE for issue 5 of his GRINDHOUSE AFICIONADO column! According to Dread's post, "The film tells the story of seven prisoners being transported from their detail at a gold mine to a fort where they will finish off their life sentences. Their wagon train is ambushed, and only the prisoners, a Union sergeant and his beautiful daughter survive, and now they find themselves stranded in a mountain pass with no horses or hope for rescue. The sergeant vows that he will get the prisoners to their final destination but has to protect his daughter from the bloodthirsty gang and figure which one of the raped and murdered his wife in the process."

The article continues, "Gudino says the potential for Cut-Throats Nine is what interested him in the project in the first place, and he has the blessing of the original’s director to improve upon it as he sees fit."

Check out the trailer to the original CUT THROATS NINE below!

    BRYAN LOVES YOU, Anchor Bay!

The film stars Tony Todd (CANDYMAN), George Wendt (FAMILY), Daniel Roebuck, Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, scream queens Tiffany Shepis and Brinke Stevens. The films plot is loosely "based on the true 1993 story of an Arizona town taken over by a malevolent cult." No official release date or special features are set yet, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out 2 trailers for BRYAN LOVES YOU below. One from the ICONS video section, the other courtesy of You Tube!

According to the site, veteran actor Kevin Tighe (LOST), Kerr Smith, and newcomer Megan Boone are now part of the cast. The trio of actors joins SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles, Jaime King (THE TRIPPER) and cult fave Tom Atkins (NIGHT OF THE CREEPS)! Patrick Lussier directs (hopefully not with contempt). Original CHAINSAW Co-Writer Preps New LEATHERFACE Movie?!

Kim Henkel recently chatted with FANGORIA about THE WILD MAN OF THE NAVIDAD, the new film he produced when the conversation eventually led to the subject of THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. After all, Henkel co-wrote the original 1974 classic with Tobe Hooper. Surprisingly, Henkel is planning a new Leatherface outing, despite the recent redux treatment by the dreaded Platinum Dunes with THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING.

    Henkel
told FANGO, "I have just completed a script for a new one, and it will not be made by Platinum Dunes. I’ve just done the first draft, and I’m still unsure of which way I’m going to go with it. However, it’s the first time since the original that I’ve done something that I wanted to do with it. I’m excited about being able to truly realize what I’ve put down on paper." This seems like exciting news to us fans. After all, I do miss the original eccentric bunch that made up the Sawyer family. (Screw the Hewitts!)

However, Henkel did also write & direct THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: A NEW GENERATION, which I'm still trying to figure out. Regardless, he has high hopes for the new script. “Let me say that it moves the whole situation forward. It places everything in the present, and is very much a product of these times. It leaves behind the setting of ‘30 years ago.’ ”

DONNIE DARKO Sequel, S. DARKO Starts Shooting THIS Month?!

This kind of came out of nowhere! In an unexpected announcement, Screen Daily is reporting that production on a sequel to the cult-classic favorite DONNIE DARKO titled S. DARKO starts shooting May 18th!

The new movie follows Daviegh Chase (THE RING), who reprises her role as younger sister Samantha Darko. She will be joined by Ed Westwick (100 FEET, SON OF RAMBOW, GOSSIP GIRLS), Briana Evigan (STEP UP 2) and Justin Chatwin (THE INVISIBLE, DRAGON BALL) in the cast. According to the article, "The story picks up seven years after the first film (and Donnie's death) when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions." Well, when your older time-traveling brother gets killed by a jet engine, I'd assume it'd do a little something to your mental state!

Chris Fisher, who previously helmed NIGHTSTALKER and RAMPAGE: THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER MURDERS will direct. Fisher said in a statement: "I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality." Producers have spoken to Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this stage. Simon Crowe of UK distributor Velvet Octopus says, "Donnie's not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits. I think there is a new generation of cinema-goers who will be very excited to see this film." Shooting will take place in Salt Lake City, UT later in the month! We'll keep you posted when we hear more!

After Dark Films is producing the first horror films set for its 8 Films to Die For theatrical film series: "FAITHLESS" and "PERKINS' 14", according to The Hollywood Reporter. The article continues, "Stewart Hopewell's "Faithless" follows a young woman trying to escape an abusive past by moving to Atlanta, but discovers more cruelty awaits her. Craig Singer's "Perkins' 14," developed from a winning idea by Jeremy Donaldson in a February Massify.com pitch contest, is a killer thriller involving the arrest of a suspected murderer. Hopewell and Tim Long are co-writing "Faithless," with Chris Milburn, Matthew Kuipers, Aimee Barth and Eryl Cochran Woodlief producing. Lane Shadgett is scripting "Perkins' 14," and winning pitchmeister Donaldson, Milburn and Kuipers will produce.

After Dark's Courtney Solomon, Laura Ivey and Stephanie Caleb will executive produce, with Beau J. Genot as co-producer on both films. The films will be shot consecutively beginning this month in Romania.

Tom Atkins Joins MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D Cast!

With SUPERNATURAL's Jensen Ackles and Jaime King already set to star in the remake of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, what could possibly make the movie any cooler other than making it in 3D? Well, genre veteran TOM ATKINS, of course! Moviehole.net is reporting that the actor who "thrills me" will be in the new redux. Atkins has appeared in several horror favorites including NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, THE FOG, CREEPSHOW, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and many, many more. Shooting starts soon in Pittsburgh with non-horror fan Patrick Lussier directing. (Hell, he supposedly voiced his contempt with the genre while editing WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE, yet he gets to keep directing genre projects. Go figure?!) January 23, 2009 is the proposed release date for MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D.
Gotta love ATKINS! The ICONS crew does!

ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT UNVEILS THE MASTERS OF HORROR SEASON TWO BOX SET

    Limited Edition ‘Skull’ Packaging Contains

All 13 Terrifying Episodes and 20-Plus Hours of Bonus Features

Exhumed onto DVD July 29, 2008

BURBANK, CA – Why settle for a good head on your shoulders when you can have a skull on your shelf! Anchor Bay Entertainment, renowned for innovative DVD packaging, brings together all 13 episodes comprising the second season of the blood-chilling anthology series Masters of Horror as a complete box set – housed in a specially designed, limited edition “skull” package!

Like last year’s critically lauded Masters of Horror “Mausoleum” Season One Box Set, the Masters of Horror Season Two “Skull” is limited to 15,000 units – so use your head and grab them before they’re gone! SRP for this cranial cache is $86.97 and pre-book is June 26th.

The Masters of Horror Season Two Box Set presents each episode in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Each disc also boasts a casket-full of spooky supplements, including commentaries from the filmmakers, behind-the-scenes featurettes, still and storyboard galleries, trailers, screenplays ( DVD -ROM) and more.

The 13 Masters of Horror Season Two episodes, alphabetically by director:

    Brad Anderson’s “Sounds Like”

Listening is a way of life for call center supervisor Larry Pearce (Chris Bauer, 8MM). But ever since his young son’s tragic death, Larry’s hearing has slowly intensified. With hearing bordering on the superhuman, he must now contend with simple noises magnified into a cacophony of torment. In a world where nothing screams louder than the madness of grief, how far will one man go to obtain absolute silence?

    Dario Argento’s “Pelts”

Struggling fur trader Jake Feldman (Meat Loaf) knows that you can’t make a coat without breaking a few animals’ necks. When he creates a luxurious fur coat from an unusual family of raccoons, he doesn’t realize that this exquisite fur coat does more than just dazzle the eye – it possesses animal desires and the power to exact revenge.

    John Carpenter’s “Pro-Life”

A twisted tale of the supernatural – and the paternal – “Pro-Life” stars cult film veteran Ron Perlman (the upcoming Hellboy II). When young Angelique (Caitlin Wachs) seeks to end an unwanted (and seemingly life-threatening) pregnancy, her devoutly religious, fervent “pro-life” father Dwayne (Perlman) will stop at nothing to prevent it. As Dwayne and his three sons attempt to “rescue” Angelique, she discovers that the only thing more dangerous than her would-be saviors is the demonic secret growing within her.

    Joe Dante’s “The Screwfly Solution”

From the director of the controversial MoH S1 episode “Homecoming.” Around the world, normal male sexual urges have suddenly mutated into violent rage, resulting in a tidal wave of horrific murders targeting women. Two scientists (Jason Priestley, “Beverly Hills 90210” and Elliott Gould, Ocean’s Eleven) are locked in a desperate race against time to figure out how – and why – the war between the sexes turned homicidal. Is a mysterious virus making every red-blooded man a potential lady-killer?

    Ernest Dickerson’s “The V Word”

For geeky best friends Kerry (Arjay Smith) and Justin (Branden Nadon), who’ve only experienced carnage via their video games, it’s the ultimate midnight quest: they want to see a real corpse. But when the pair breaks into a local mortuary, they unleash a ferocious ghoul (Michael Ironside, Scanners, Starship Troopers) who’s hungry to share a few depraved urges of his own.

Mick Garris’ “Valerie on the Stairs”

Adapted from the Clive Barker story, “Valerie on the Stairs” stars Tyron Leitso (“Dinotopia”) as Rob Hanisee, an unpublished writer living at a commune for aspiring and broke novelists. Rob suspects that the house may be haunted by more than just the specters of failed authors when Valerie, a gorgeous apparition, appears in the hallway. Rob believes that he has found his muse, yet the ghost of this beautiful woman cries out in fear of a beast who owns her -- body and soul. Tony Todd (Candyman, “Chuck”) and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) co-star.

    Stuart Gordon’s “The Black Cat”

Edgar Allan Poe (Jeffrey Combs) is suffering from crippling writer’s block, he’s deeply in debt and barely takes care of himself, tending only to his loving but ailing wife Virginia (Elyse Levesque). He tends to her, burdened with the knowledge that he cannot save her. But is it his wife’s slow, agonizing death or her ever-present black cat that is steadily driving him insane? “The Black Cat” is an elegant and stylish thriller that propels the eclectic series into the unchartered realm of biographic speculation.

    Tobe Hooper’s “The Damned Thing”

Adapted from the classic short story by famed author Ambrose Bierce, “The Damned Thing” stars Sean Patrick Flannery (The Boondock Saints) as Kevin Reddle, who, as a boy, watched helplessly as both of his parents were brutally murdered by an inexplicable force. Now a county sheriff in the tiny hamlet of Cloverdale, Kevin faces the nightmarish prospect that “it” might have returned – ready to kill again, and once again it’s after his family.

Tom Holland’s “We All Scream for Ice Cream”

“We All Scream for Ice Cream” stars William Forsythe (The Rock) as Buster the Clown, a mentally challenged man who drives an ice cream truck. One day while on his daily route, a group of kids plays a cruel prank with tragic consequences. Years later, the same group, now adults with families of their own, is slowly being exterminated – by their own children. Buster and his ice cream truck have returned for the sweet revenge that will leave their children screaming for ice cream – and their parents screaming for mercy.

    John Landis’ “Family”

Harold Thompson (George Wendt) is a mild-mannered bachelor living in an idyllic, sun-drenched planned community. Unbeknownst to his neighbors, he harbors a deadly secret as he builds the “perfect” family. When a young couple moves next door, Harold sets his sights on the sexy young wife (Meredith Monroe) as his potential new “bride.” Amid the manicured lawns and white picket fences, can Harold hide his monstrous secret long enough to complete his gruesome goal? Written by Brent Hanley (Frailty).

    Rob Schmidt’s “Right to Die”

“Right to Die” stars Martin Donovan (“Weeds”) as Cliff Addison, a man harboring a guilty secret from his wife Abby (Julia Anderson) – he is committing adultery. However, after a car accident leaves Abby’s body covered in burns, she repeatedly flat-lines, only to be revived each time. During the brief periods when she is clinically “dead,” her apparition seeks vengeance on those who stand to profit from her suffering, including a slick attorney (Corbin Bernsen, “L.A. Law”).

    Norio Tsuruta’s “Dream Cruise”

Adapted from a short story by the legendary Japanese horror novelist Koji Suzuki (the original Ringu), “Dream Cruise” stars Daniel Gillies (Spider-Man 2) as an American attorney working in Japan . He also harbors a crippling fear of the ocean, due to a childhood trauma. Even more threatening waters lie ahead when he begins a dangerous affair with the wife of a wealthy client (Ryo Ishibashi, Audition, The Grudge). When the trio embarks on a sunset boat trip, the stage is set for a tragic showdown between those who love and those who will kill to keep what is theirs. The disc features the complete theatrical cut of “Dream Cruise.”

    Peter Medak’s “The Washingtonians”

Johnathon Schaech (That Thing You Do) stars in and co-adapted Bentley Little’s short story that sheds a new (bloody) light on American history. Saul Rubinek (Unforgiven) co-stars in this gruesome tale about the discovery of a Revolutionary War artifact that suggests George Washington’s famed wooden teeth hungered for more than just liberty.

Premiering on the Showtime cable network in October 2005 to critical and public acclaim, each one-hour Masters of Horror film set a new standard in terror, written and directed by some of the genre’s leading practitioners.

The executive producers of Masters of Horror are Morris Berger & Steve Brown; John W. Hyde; Keith Addis & Andrew Deane ; and Mick Garris. Lisa Richardson and Tom Rowe are producers. Adam Goldworm and Ben Browning are co-producers on the series.

Alan Rowe Kelly Making New DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT!

FANGORIA is reporting that indie filmmaker Alan Rowe Kelly is remaking the indie cult classic DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT. In the article, Kelly told Fango, “The opportunity arose, and surprisingly no one had yet attempted a re-adaptation." The original (directed by S.F. Brownrigg) takes place in a mental institution where the head doctor has been murdered, and a new nurse discovers that the inmates have started to take over. The new version will be written and helmed by Kelly and Anthony G. Sumner. Kelly regulars Zoë Daelman Chlanda and Jerry Murdock, BLOOD SHED’s Terry M. West, Jeff Dylan Graham (OCTOBER MOON), Debbie Diverde, Marv Blauvelt and Kelly himself will all star in DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT. Kelly continues, "We thought it appropriate to remake this low-budget gem as it was intended, by keeping it a low-cost feature. Of course, our treatment warranted many updates to make it current and believable in today’s age, but we didn’t want to lose the main focus of the storyline. Fresh characters have been added, and excellent twists will be incorporated to give new shocks to the film without losing the original’s flavor."

    Is Bousman Helming HELLRAISER?!

After witnessing the bloody mayhem set forth by French director's Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury with their film INSIDE, I was beyond excited to see what those sick bastards would do with the upcoming HELLRAISER remake. (Hell, they had Clive Barker's seal of approval.) But alas, the Weinstein's opted to remove them from the project and the re-write duties for the script fell in the hands of Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. (FEAST, SAW IV & V) Now, an interesting name is being thrown around as a potential director for the HELLRAISER redux. SAW II-IV director Darren Lynn Bousman. Bousman just completed his SAW IV follow-up REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA, as well as his episode of NBC's FEAR ITSELF titled NEW YEAR'S DAY. Next on queue for the director is the SCANNERS remake, scripted by David Goyer. But could HELLRAISER be next instead? SHOCK is reporting that an offer has gone out to Bousman to bring back Pinhead. Should he accept the gig is still up in the air. But... could make for an interesting reboot of the franchise. (He sure does know how to spill some blood!)

Little Hope For New TERMINATOR Movie... It's Got COMMON and Will Be PG-13...

Well, we were excited by the prospect of a new TERMINATOR movie starring Christian Bale... that is until this double dose of questionable decision making on the part of Halcyon Pictures. First, a report on Variety: "Terminator' guns for kid-friendly rating. Halcyon aims to deliver PG-13 movie." Ok, the name of the movie is THE TERMINATOR. It's a bout a killer robot from the future who's only goal is to "terminate" (aka "kill") it's target (s). And they want to make that kid friendly?! Blame it on LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD. Check out the article on Variety about the rating HERE. And then read about the casting of rapper Common HERE. (No, seriously.) Well, I'll let the boys over at Aint It Cool do all the ranting. Read their articles about both stories below:

    http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36633

If you're still interested, TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS is set for release May 22, 2009. The tory centers on John Connor (Bale), now in his 30s, who leads what is left of the human race in a battle against the machines. Common will play a freedom fighter and member of Connor's inner circle. McG will direct from a script by John D. Brancato & Michael Ferris and Paul Haggis. Sigh.

Breck Eisner Talks THE CRAZIES Remake!

A few days ago, SHOCK got an interview with director Breck Eisner who was out promoting his episode of NBC's FEAR ITSELF. However, the filmmaker also dropped plenty of tidbits about his next 2 projects, remakes of both THE CRAZIES (based on the George Romero flick) and CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. According to the interview on SHOCK, Eisner's version definitely remains faithful to the source material. "Obviously Romero's version had an anti-war bent to it in the aftermath of Korea and Vietnam, we're clearly in a similar situation now. It's the same story, we have all of these weapons from the Cold War that are in stockpiles that have to be destroyed as our environment is obviously being damaged as we go."

Also of note is Eisner's take on "the crazies" themselves. "They are definitely crazy, they are out there. They're not zombies, the biggest challenge is to make it clear it's not a zombie movie. What's great about the original is that they all don't have a coherent cohesive action, everybody acts different. There's a kid, in our version, who just stands there punching a wall, punching his fists into a bloody pulp. It unlocks their deepest psychosis - some of it is violent, some of it is sexual, some of its self-inflicted violence. For me, the scariest movie for me as a kid was John Carpenter's The Thing and the idea was not knowing who to trust, the guy you're stuck with. It's a similar concept here - can you trust your wife, can you trust your mother, your brother? That's a good deep-seated fear for a horror movie." Principle photography begins this summer in Winnipeg, Canada. Rogue Pictures is producing. For more on THE CRAZIES, read the entire article on SHOCK TILL YOU DROP.COM!

Ruggero Deodato's CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST Sequel, "CANNIBALS"?!

Bloody-Disgusting debuted a great teaser poster for Ruggero Deodato's companion film to his cult-classic CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST simply titled CANNIBALS. The poster is a "sales poster" provided by Imagination Worldwide to B-D. The plan is for Deodato to direct and produce alongside Andre Koob and Pierre David. Several months back, Icons had a peek at a treatment for a proper CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST sequel, which was actually really, really good. But judging from the following tagline, CANNIBALS seems like it's own entity. "FIRST, HE SHOCKED THE WORLD WITH CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. NOW, HORROR MASTER RUGGERO DEODATO UNLEASHES HIS NEW VISION. THIS TIME, THEY ARE NO LONGER IN THE JUNGLE." Click the teaser image below to see the full poster!

Breck Eisner Talks CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON Remake!

Ryan Rotten over at Shock Till You Drop chatted at great length with director Breck Eisner about THE SACRIFICE, his episode of NBC's FEAR ITSELF and uncovered a few interesting tidbits about a few other projects the director's been attached to. Eisner confessed that he is in fact reworking a script by Gary Ross for a new CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON update. The article reveals that Spectral Motion has built a maquette for the "Gillman" based on an appearance created by Mark "Crash" McCreery. Before helming the return of the CREATURE, Eisner will next shoot his remake of George Romero's THE CRAZIES. Here's hoping the new CREATURE will be in the vein of the currently lensing WOLFMAN movie with Benicio Del Toro. Click HERE from tons more info from the original interview on SHOCK!

Check out our FRIGHT exclusive interview with the late, great BEN CHAPMAN, the original "Gillman" from THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

    THE DESCENT 2 Starts Casting!

The long-gestating sequel to Neil Marshall's THE DESCENT seems to finally be gearing up for production with the recent announcement of several cast members! An article on The Hollywood Reporter states, "'Celador Films is reuniting with French-owned and U.K.-based Pathe on a sequel to low-budget box office hit "THE DESCENT.'" Jon Harris, the editor of the first DESCENT makes his directorial debut with THE DESCENT 2 from a script by James Watkins. (MY LITTLE EYE) The article continues with confirmation of plans to shoot the sequel on location in Scotland and at London's Ealing Studios over the course of 8 weeks. "The stars of the original film, Shauna MacDonald and Natalie Mendoza, will reprise their roles, alongside Gavan O'Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern, Douglas Hodge and Krysten Cummings. The script sees the survivor forced back into the system of caves she battled her way out of in the first film, in a bid to locate the rest of her group." We'll keep you posted on when shooting official begins!

G4's Latest From The Set of TWILIGHT!

Our friend at G4 have let us in on it again! On this visit to the set of the upcoming vampire flick TWILIGHT they sat down with actor Robert Pattinson (you remember him as the late Cedric Diggory from "Harry Potter") and chatted it up about what it's like to be a lapdog of Satan! And if he looks a little pale, that's because he's wearing his vampire makeup! Check out the clip below:
