SCORSESE Does HITCHCOCK?!

Just as a film fan, this is just so darned cool that we had to share it with all of you! A video has surfaced on-line of famed director Martin Scorsese taking on a secret experimental project, the filming an un-shot Alfred Hitchcock movie based on a 3 and a half page script. The pages for the project titled "THE KEY TO RESERVA" are undated, but in the clip, Scorsese explains the abandoned project and his idea is to preserve a film that hasn't been made. It's totally fascinating! Click THIS link and check it out for yourself!!!

Sullivan Confirm's 2001 MANIACS Director's Cut for Sequel's DVD!

In our recent extensive chat with writer/director Tim Sullivan, he revealed plenty of scoops regarding several of his upcoming projects! Among one of the more interesting bits was Tim expressing his desire to completely recut his debut feature 2001 MANIACS. Well, he's confirmed that there WILL be a new Director's Cut of his movie titled 2001 MANIACS: REDUX, but you won't have to double-dip on that DVD. It'll be included as a BONUS disc when the sequel 2001 MANIACS: BEVERLY HELLBILLYS hits DVD! (Courtesy of LIONSGATE) Read on for quotes on the MANIACS Director's Cut, the sequel & comic book and his vampire flick BROTHERHOOD OF THE BLOOD!
About 2001 MANIACS: REDUX: "We just met with Lionsgate and part of doing 2001 MANIACS: BEVERLY HELLBILLYS is that I’m finally going to get to do my vision, my cut of MANIACS. It’s going to be called 2001 MANIACS: REDUX. It’s going to the way it was written, storyboarded, the way it was meant to be with different scenes, re-edited and with the original music. BUT, we’re not going to make you double-dip. We’re going to make it a bonus disc on the DVD release for 2001 MANIACS: BEVERLY HELLBILLYS. Now, how’s that?"

About BROTHERHOOD OF THE BLOOD: "
It’s my operatic supernatural romantic thriller. It’s about a love triangle between 2 male vampires and a female mortal. It’s very much in line with THE HUNGER and INTERVIEW THE VAMPIRE and in the direction that those films maybe wanted to go but perhaps couldn’t at the time because of censorship or nerves or whatever. Thomas Dekker who’s playing John Conner in the new Sarah Conner Chronicles is going to be playing Luke, the younger vampire and we’re hoping to get Rob Lowe to play Sebastian, his counterpart."

About the comic book's connection to the sequel BEVERLY HELLBILLYS:
"We didn’t want to do an adaptation of the first film because people have already heard that story! So, we went back to explain what happened that day in April of 1864, we introduce a couple of new characters whom are going to be figured prominently in the sequel. We will introduce Scarlet Red who is at the crux of what happens. She’s Mayor Buckman and Granny Boone’s daughter. We introduce another key figure Jim Crow who will be played by Tony Todd, who’s sort of a slave there from Haiti who’s knowledge of voodoo figures prominently in the curse of the confederacy, which actually condemned the Pleasant Valley citizens. And then we also introduce another character named Doc Tickles, who will be played by Bill Moseley. So, the comic is really cool because it’s a prequel and a bridge to the sequel."

PICKMAN'S MODEL Trailer On YouTube/Synopsis

The trailer for the new film PICKMAN'S MODEL, a new independent film based on the H.P. Lovecraft short story has been posted on YouTube. The film begins with a simple invitation to view Pickman's work at his isolated studio in Boston's North End. And ends with the apprehension that what lurks in the foreground of Pickman's work is far more sinister than the art itself.

IOF EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: On The Set of MALEVOLENCE: BEREAVEMENT

Icons of Fright has the first exclusive video look at writer/director Stevan Mena's follow-up, a prequel, to the 2004 independently produced slasher film "Malevolence".

Back in August of 2004, within the first two months after we launched this site, I caught a commercial for "Malevolence". I'd never heard of the film (we really weren't too in the know back then) and I was excited that what appeared to be an low-budget slasher film would be playing theatrically at the local multiplex.

And we loved the movie. If you've seen it you know it doesn't break any new ground, but we hadn't seen horror like this in theaters for a very long time. During the dreadful summer of "Alien Vs. Predator" and "Exorcist: The Beginning" no less! It was tense, dark, gloomy, and scary. It featured reprehensible and horrible people, and the innocent caught in their path, in an extremely unpleasant and nasty situation. It was hand-crafted, classic American horror. Almost as soon as we left the theater we decided this would be the first new film that we'd try to cover on Icons.

So we sought out the director and his cast, and "Malevolence" became not only the first new film that we covered pretty much from top to bottom, but the first of many, many of the films and people that we'd cover in the independent and underground horror world. Now, with "Malevolence: Bereavement", our relationship with this special film has come full circle, and we're proud to have this video set-visit as the first piece of original and exclusive video content.

So, take a few minutes and journey with us onto the set of "Malevolence: Bereveament". The first of many more on-set video featurettes to come in the new Icons of Fright video section. Enjoy!

great foes begins anew.

THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA

Continuing his deranged experiments, he transplants Hans’ soul into his newly-undead monster, who then begins to take revenge on those who wrongly framed Hans for murder.

FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED
(1969) 1:25 AM ET/10:25 PM PT/12:25 AM C
Cushing delivers his most cold-blooded portrayal of the mad Baron in his fifth turn as Dr. Frankenstein. Abandoning his latest experiment after a drunk stumbles into his secret lab, he hurriedly finds new lodgings with a young woman whose boyfriend works in the local sanitarium. Frankenstein blackmails the lovers into complicity with his latest experiment – helping him transfer his friend’s brain into another body to save him from the local asylum. When the creature awakes, he is horrified by his appearance and escapes to go to his “former” wife. Frankenstein finds the creature, but is it too late?

THE MUMMY (1959) 3:10 AM ET/12:10 AM PT/2:10 AM C
After, three British archeologists open the sacred grave of a Princess Ananka, who died four millennia ago, an ancient curse befalls them. They also manage to raise the vindictive mummy Kharis (Christopher Lee), charged with guarding the Princess in the afterlife, as well as the ire of Mehemet Bey, an Egyptian adept of the god Karnak. Which English infidels will experience the wrath of the Mummy, in this Terrence Fisher-directed Technicolor classic starring both Lee and Cushing?

THE MUMMY’S SHROUD (1967) 4:40 AM ET/1:40 AM PT/3:40 AM C
In 1920, an archeological expedition unearths the tomb of an ancient Egyptian child prince. After returning home with their discovery, the archeologists soon find themselves being killed off one by one by the mummy, which was unknowingly revived when they translated the prince’s burial shroud.

PEE-WEE? A "MANIAC"?: Paul Reubens To Join Cast of "2002 Maniacs

In our latest FRIGHT EXCLUSIVE Interview with director Tim Sullivan, he reveals that actor/comedian Paul Reubens, perhaps best know as his alter-ego PEE-WEE HERMAN is game to join the cast of "2002 MANIACS: BEVERLY HELLBILLIES". Click inside for details.

Paul Reubens

Pee WeeWhen asked to relate some crazy stories of the past year, director Sullivan recounted meeting Paul "Pee Wee Herman" Reubens at Comic-Con where the topic of joining the cast of "2002 Maniacs" first came up: "I’ve known Paul Reubens since the 80’s when I worked at MTV and he was a guest VJ as Pee Wee Herman. I ran into him at Comic-Con having not seen him in a while and the first thing he says to me is “I love 2001 MANIACS! Can I be in the sequel!” And I say, “Uh, sure!” So, it looks like Paul Reubens is going to be in BEVERLY HILLBILLYS. I can’t seem to turn on Showtime without it being on!"

Reubens is no stranger to horror-comedy.

Besides scaring us all for life as kids with the Large Marge scene in "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure", don't forget that Reubens' starred as the wacky vampire Amilyn in the original "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" feature film, and way, way back had a role in Afred Sole ("Alice Sweet Alice)'s 1982 horror spoof "Pandemonium".

ROB ZOMBIE Remaking... C.H.U.D?!

Count this among one of the weirdest things we've ever heard of! You need look no futher then THE VAULT OF THE FORGOTTEN AND OBSCURE section on this site to know we love the 1984 flick C.H.U.D! (Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers) Well, according to an article on Billboard.com, ROB ZOMBIE is planning on remaking the beloved cult-classic! Now, this was the first that anyone had heard about this, but Dread Central are CONFIRMING that Rob is in fact remaking C.H.U.D as his next feature! Follow the links below for the full scoop!
In an interview with Billboard.com, Rob Zombie has "been linked to a remake of "C.H.U.D." for 2009 but would not confirm what his next film project will be."

CLIVE BARKER Talks New HELLRAISER With B-D!

Bloody Disgusting conducted a lengthy interview with Clive Barker and offered some choice cuts on all his upcoming projects. The video game JERICHO, NIGHTBREED's missing footage, the FEAR ITSELF series and the HELLRAISER remake were among the many subjects covered. Below's a few quotes on the HELLRAISER remake from Clive. Follow the link below for the rest of the scoops. Clive Barker's latest novel MISTER B GONE is available now!
On the HELLRAISER remake, Clive seems to approve filmmakers Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury fully. Barker talks a bit about how involved he is with the project, “I will watch over two Frenchmen who will remake it and only because I think they are two very splendid young men who made a fucking great movie,” he continues, “I like them both. I like the movie INSIDE. It’s very good, very bloody and they are very nice smart guys who have a commitment to the original movie.

What B-D found interesting is how Barker doesn’t want his take on the story to be remade, he wants to see something fresh, “I think it’s all the more reason that they remake it; that they don’t take my version of the story. I had some specific suggestions, which I don’t want to spoil for you or anyone else, about how things might be taken up a notch or two. And you know S&M just isn’t what it used to be! So if we’re to do the whips and chains and the hooks we have to do them at a whole new level because I thinks its tired material.

For the complete article and updates on ALL his projects, check out the original Bloody-Disgusting article HERE.

2001 MANIACS Comic Out THIS Wed! TIM SULLIVAN Appearance Next Week!

Writer/Director Tim Sullivan wrote in to remind us that the comic book for 2001 MANIACS wil see it's release THIS Wednesday, November 7th, 2007! The story (titled CURSE OF THE CONFEDERACY) is the origin of just how these fine folks of Pleasant Valley came to be vengeance-starved, Northerner-hunting maniacs and will feature 3 new characters that will be  prominently featured in the upcoming sequel, BEVERLY HELLBILLYS. Tim's new film DRIFTWOOD also hits DVD next Tuesday the 13th and he'll be signing copies at Burbank's DARK DELECACIES on Monday night, November 12th at 7PM. Details all below!
Message from Tim Sullivan!

If you're reading this, God bless you, because you are the real deal- a tried and true, to the bone MANIAC! Now we've been talking about this 2001 MANIACS comic book for months now, many of you showed up at the various promo events to get your "Preview Edition" signed, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now as fate would have it, we've had some delays at the printer and it seems like it's taken an eternity, but I am here to tell you: There is no more waiting to be had.

THE BOOK IS DONE AND IN COMIC STORES THIS WEDNESDAY!

And wait till you see it. I know fans of MANIACS will be thrilled. Trust me, it blew me away. The artwork is that stunning. It's exactly how I envisioned it- a combination of the old EC horror comic TALES FROM THE CRYPT crossed with their politically charged war themed TWO FISTED TALES.

The story is the origin of just how these fine folks of Pleasant Valley came to be vengeance-starved, Northerner-hunting maniacs. You'll see just how Mayor Buckman got that patch eye of his, and you'll also meet three brand new maniacs (Scarlet Red, Jim Crow and Doc Tickles) that will be featured prominently in the upcoming sequel, BEVERLY HELLBILLYS.

It's called CURSE OF THE CONFEDERACY and it's only FOUR MEASLY BUCKS, so how the hell can you go wrong?

There are four different collector covers, and for a few dollars more you can get a special edition signed by me and Robert Englund, who, by the way, worked with me on making sure Buckman is depicted and drawn EXACTLY how Robert would play him if this comic were an actual movie. Fact is- I kinda feel like this book is a movie- think of it as a screenplay with storyboards for a future maniac movie yet to be!

So what are you waiting for? CLICK ON THIS LINK AND ORDER THE GOSH DANG BOOK RIGHT NOW!!

Spread the Red— Tim Sullivan

Tim will be signing copies of the DRIFTWOOD DVD on Monday, November 12th, 2007 at 7PM at DARK DELECACIES located in Burbank, CA at 4213 West Burbank Boulevard. Make sure you drop by and say hi!
