‘The Ghouligans’ DVD is a 50 minute feature (mostly in black and white) collecting the “Slack Packs” short film series of ‘THE GHOULIGANS’. It’s essentially a bunch of fun shorts that feature all the classic characters – Dracula, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein and puts them in odd situations of today. Think ‘The Munsters’ and ‘Groovie Goolies’. Over all, I really LOVE the idea of ‘The Ghouligans’. I feel that this particular sub-genre of horror isn’t being done by anyone these days. And that’s a shame, because I grew up on re-runs of ‘The Munsters’ and ‘The Addams Family’. Sure, I like serious horror too, but every once in a while, I really just want to have fun with scary ghouls! For example, what would trick or treating be like at Dracula’s house? Or even trying to buy a car from him? Does Frankenstein have car trouble? And how do you teach a ghoul to dance? There’s even a short color short that starts out played as a “real” zombie flick, but (I think) quickly illustrates the point that “Fast Zombies Suck”. This disc collects a ton of these guys shorts, so some are hit or miss. In fact, my only problem with it is that by the time I really got into some of the ideas and scenarios being played out, they were over! Regardless, this is a fun disc for people looking for some non-serious horror themed fair. Perfect for Halloween night screenings. I really hope these guys eventually make a ‘Ghouligans’ feature length. Something I can really get invested in, because I see the potential for something really funny and great from these characters. –Robg.
