Fear of Clowns

Story: Lynn is a struggling artist with a fear of clowns. She deals with the fear thru her art. That is, until a scary mofo in clown make-up starts stalking her and killing off all the people around her!

The Film Itself: Ok, look… this is a low-budget affair, and it’s called ‘Fear Of Clowns’, and there’s a cool, scary lookin’ clown on the cover of the DVD. As long as you know what you’re getting yourself into, then you’re in for a good time. I was introduced to this film after seeing clips from the upcoming ‘Fear Of Clowns 2’, which looked like an over-the-top, fun, gory good time. So, while this movie is just OK, I look at it as the “secret” prequel to the movie I imagined when I first heard that title. The acting is very “ugh” and the running time clocks in a little longer then most genre movies, but all flaws aside, writer/director Kevin Kangas make an cool debut with this franchise and introduces us to a scary antagonist. The make-up on the clown itself is the highlight. On top of a crooked smile, “Shivers” has all black eyes. (Explained as a rare disorder.) His eyes are cool, he looks cool, and he swings an ax at a naked chick at one point. I liked the ending bit of the film in the movie theatre. I’ve never quite seen that scenario in a horror movie before and I kind of liked it. So, again, ‘Fear Of Clowns’ is a decent new genre pic. It tries to add something a little different to the “slasher” genre with its killer, and I think Kevin has definitely pulled that off. I just can’t wait to see the next one, which features 2 more insane clowns, more naughty nudity, Lars Stevens and an exploding car! –Robg.
