| ALIENS - Newt's Tale
- Alien 3 adaption - Hive 'Aliens: Newt's Tale' is an interesting read for any fan of the James Cameron Special Edition version of the film. Written by Mike Richardson with art by Jim Somerville, this 2 issue mini-series focus's on a lot of the deleted scenes from 'Aliens'; starting with Newt's parents discovery of the alien eggs & then following thru from her point of view, the fall of the space station. The first issue is great. Nice art, face pace & it fills in the gap between the above mentioned deleted scene up until the marines arrive at the station to take out the Aliens. The 2nd issue however is kind of pointless & serves as an adaption of the 2nd half of the movie. Nothing really new except the few deleted scenes incorporated into the story. (These came out before DVD so I assume that's why they told this part of the story here too.) The Alien 3 adaption is written by Steven Grant with art by Christopher Taylor. I was disappointed by the storyline they continued the film with, so I can't say I enjoy the comic version too much. The artwork is decent though. Hive is written by Jerry Prosser with art by Kelley Jones. -rg. |

| THE MASK Um... wow. I forgot how different the original 'Mask' books were compared to the Jim Carrey movie. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy the Mask movie a lot, but here in the comics, it's a whole different animal. The first series was scripted by John Arcudi with fantastic artwork by Doug Mahnke. The Mask was created by Mike Richardson. In the book, the mask is given to Lieutenant Kellaway by Karen after her boyfriend Stanly, is killed. (took place in issue 0) Kelaway puts it on & criminal scum start to pay... with their lives! This violent & bad-ass version of the Mask is excellent. Picture the Jim Carrey version, but Punisher style & you've got the original Mask series. The huge unstoppable villian Walter makes his debut here & pops up even in the Mask Returns. The thing i like about the sequel is a complete change of plot. After an attempt on Kellaway's life, the Mask falls into the hands of a mob driver, who uses his new found power to gain control of the entire mob circuit. Karen makes an attempt to steal the mask back, since she feels responsible in the first place & ends up using it to save herself, becoming a female Mask. The Mask Returns is a very entertaining & original book written again by John Arcudi with art by Doug Mahnke -rg.. |

| The THING From Another
World - The THING From Another World: Climate Of Fear 'The Thing From Another World' 2 issue mini-series was written by Chuck Pfarrer with artwork by John Higgins. Carpenter fans rejoice! The first comic series acts as a direct sequel to the movie picking up exactly where the film left off; with both MacReady & Childs out in the middle of the arctic. MacReady wakes on an ice-bound whaling vessel, after being carried out onto the ice floe by Childs. He steals the ships helicopter & heads back to the U.S. # 31 to destroy all the remains of the Thing. There, he encounters a Navy SEAL team& Childs as they await a submarine to take them away. But is any of the team infected? Of course! This series wraps up & leads right into the 'Climate Of Fear' storyline, which finds the Thing & MacReady on land. Fans of the John Carpenter film will love these books. John Higgin's displays a painting-type style to his artwork. And the front cover's alone kick ass. The 'Climate Of Fear' series was written by John Arcudi with art by Jim Somerville & a cover by John Higgins. -rg. |
